We are looking for a Business Development eCommerce Manager who will grow at our corporate office in Marysville, Ohio.  If you do not live in the Ohio area, we are also open to remote work as well.

The Business Development Manager (BDM), eCommerce is a customer-facing role responsible for account management, development, delivery, and implementation of the sales and marketing plan that achieves sales goals. 

This individual will be instrumental in managing the assortment, sales, promotions, analysis, and support vehicles for the emerging eCommerce accounts.  This would include but not limited to customers such as Wayfair, eBay, Overstock, Chewy, Macy’s, Woot!, etc...

The BDM is the primary contact for the customer working in sync with the cross functional E-Commerce team.  This person will be responsible for leading account management, marketing, and replenishment to effectively manage the business.  Additionally, the successful candidate works closely with the eCommerce cross functional team (Finance, supply chain, and merchandising) to support the customer on a day to day basis.

The BDM must exercise outstanding communication and organizational skills plus the ability to develop, coordinate, communicate, and implement complex sales and marketing plans for the accounts.  This individual must be able to identify untapped businesses and establish internal and external relationships to deliver on these opportunities.  The successful candidate will be able to establish positive relationships and communication with the customer teams, including merchants and their team. 

To thrive in this role you must:

  • Work with Customer Service, Supply Chain, Brand Marketing, and finance to manage the day to day business of the accounts. This includes sales, shipments, inventory, customer requests, in season opportunities, and end of season analysis

  • Work cross functionally to prepare programs ensuring distribution of all Scotts products as well as impactful promotional and feature plans with appropriate media and advertising support vehicles.

  • Manage accounts to exceed sales goals and aggressively identify new business opportunities and potential customers. 

  • Drive the development of creative and innovative business solutions.

  • Project management: Example market share report out, Pre-season activities, process improvements, new account setup  

  • Collaborate with content and merchandising team to support online catalogs while meeting the customer requirements.

  • Partner with team to accurately forecast - by SKU, by account, by month, by plan the anticipated demand requirements

  • Recommend product orders to assure sufficient product inventory to meet sales demand based on each retailer's program.

  • Participate in customer meetings and events, as well as Scotts internal sales + marketing meetings

  • Develop and maintain account playbooks with new programs and advertising

  • Lead team of at least 1 direct report (assistant business development manager) in developing the support team

  • Build Relationships with merchant and customer marketing/media teams

The perfect person will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or other relevant discipline required. 

  • E-Commerce experience required.

  • Minimum of 4 years sales/account management experience.  National Account retail sales experience for CPG preferred. 

  • Customer Systems/Portal experience preferred. 

  • Ability to analyze category and product trends and translate them to executable strategies. 

  • Project management skills required, along with advanced communication and presentation skills. 

  • Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency.  Ability to learn and manage customer portals and systems.

  • This individual should be adept at managing the annual “sales cycle”. 

  • Thorough knowledge of retail E-Commerce  activities, including promotions, financials, and operations

  • Thorough knowledge of online retailer policies/procedures

  • Thorough knowledge in digital marketing, such as developing and implementing advertising programs and merchandising tactics.
