We are looking for an experienced Copywriter to grow with our Creative Services team at the rapidly expanding Hawthorne Gardening Company. This position can be remote and may include limited travel.  This is an exciting opportunity to develop creative campaign copy for a collection of the biggest brands in the Cannabis industry. The Copywriter writes compelling, clear and concise copy for products, packaging, and multichannel marketing communications (including, but not limited to digital/social communications, video scripts, website content, print advertising, marketing collateral, internal and external press releases, etc.) for Hawthorne and its multiple, industry leading brands. Your words will engage, inform, and serve as a catalyst to elevate our brands, and increase our share of the professional and hobbyist hydroponic industry by speaking to various customer targets, both B2C and B2B.  This opportunity requires writing skills that serve a very wide range of projects. Our ideal candidate is a big idea, big picture thinker who is agile enough to craft campaign and product copy and shift to editing existing copy on the fly. This team player must move from B2C to B2B writing projects with ease. We’re searching for a nimble writer who is adept at writing from and developing copy to represent multiple brand voices and comfortable presenting work to various stakeholders.

In this role you will:

  • Ideate and craft big idea campaign messages and copy

  • Oversee development of product copy, editorial copy, site development copy and other

  • messaging for the company.

  • Develop copy for our primary marketing channels - paid and organic social/digital

  • advertising and print advertising and direct email.

  • Collaborate with internal and external creative agencies, PR and other professionals on

  • small and large-scale marketing projects.

  • Conduct high-quality research and interviews to inform writing.

  • Edit and proofread copy as needed.

  • Use SEO principles to maximize copy’s reach.

  • Establish copy needs for direct marketing materials and campaigns, ensuring that all copy

  • requirements are clearly communicated.

  • Edit website copy through each step of the production schedule--from start to finish

  • through our internal approval process.

  • Collaborate with Integrated Marketing, Production and Category teams to meet product and

  • production deadlines while ensuring that copy aligns with the goals of internal stakeholders.

  • Work cross-functionally to share and align copy across customer touch points; serve as an

  • advocate of brand voice integrity across the portfolio.

  • Maintain the highest editorial standards for all copy.

In addition, the person will also have:

  • 4-year Bachelor degree in English, Journalism, Marketing or a related field

  • Agency experience strongly preferred.

  • Strong editorial skills and minimum 5-7 years’ copywriting/editorial experience.

  • Prior experience in consumer product marketing.

  • Ability to proactively manage and prioritize multiple projects to meet tight production

  • deadlines.

  • Ability to distill complex subject matter into digestible content.

  • Experience developing creative marketing language within strict legal and regulatory

  • guidelines.

  • Flexibility to quickly move from project to project as priorities change

  • Self-starter who is comfortable in an extremely fast-paced environment.

  • Able to keep projects moving forward in an environment with high levels of ambiguity.

  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Cannabis industry experience is a plus.

  • Strong research skills.

  • Collaborative spirit.
