Position Scope / Impact of Error: 

Accountable to the Office Manager, the Dispatcher, participates as an integral member of the Canada Supply Chain team and performs duties in accordance with the mandate and priorities of Scotts Canada Ltd.  The Dispatcher works to direct the daily procedures and making the schedule for the next day. Assists with organizing and conducting activities to assure safe, cost-effective, on-time operating performance, assure product deliveries are timely, and communicates service issues to the appropriate personnel. This work is done in compliance with the procedures defined by the customer and in conformance with company procedures, which involves daily communication and interaction with drivers and customers.

Impact of recommendations, decisions and actions made by the incumbent: Moderate to High

Position Authority:

The Dispatcher makes recommendations to the Office Manager (or designate) who makes the final decision.

Position Overview: 

The Dispatcher works to direct the daily procedures and making the schedule for the next day. Assists with organizing and conducting activities to assure safe, cost-effective, on-time operating performance, assure product deliveries are timely, and communicates service issues to the appropriate personnel. This work is done in compliance with the procedures defined by the customer and in conformance with company procedures, which involves daily communication and interaction with drivers and customers.

The Dispatcher may be required to work on holidays and weekends from time to time.

Specific Accountabilities: 

Co-ordinates and in the following duties: shipping, receiving, storing, distributing and maintaining inventories of materials, dispatching products to clients; scheduling transportation of product; Liaise with clients: receive and confirm details of orders, maintain effective proactive client communications including tracking and tracing results as needed; Enter, manage and dispatch all orders within TMS; Arrange appointments and scheduling; Maintain positive, caring and supportive communications with clients, and  drivers; Direct any e-mail / phone calls / faxes or PDF files to the correct department or person; Responsible for order entry, using a check list for accuracy. This includes pick up/delivery addresses, contacts at each location, PO/SO/Reference #s, using our checklist to be thorough and precise; Resolving any issues regarding any order with the carrier brought to dispatch by Customer Service; To track and trace current loads; Inform the customer the whereabouts of their freight via email, or phone; May perform the same duties as workers supervised; Carry out any additional duties as assigned.

Requisite Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years dispatch experience within an asset dispatch environment; Excellent communication skills; Strong knowledge of office software (Excel, Word, Google suites, others); Excellent problem-solving skills able to think on your feet; Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports; Ability to work independently & expeditiously, including working under tight timeframes and competing priorities; Demonstrated sound judgement, tact, initiative and flexibility; Focused on meeting commitments & customer satisfaction; Strong organizational and coordination skills.
