We are looking for a Financial Analyst, Accounting who will join our Scotts Canada Finance team in Mississauga, Ontario.

You will support the Finance team in General Accounting, Tax and Treasury areas. General Accounting responsibilities include balance sheet account reconciliations (Blackline), journal entry processing for month end and year end (gatekeeper for SAP JE processing) and inter-company balance reconciliation. You are a key player in managing Treasury responsibilities including various daily banking functions, account reconciliation as well as supporting cash flow forecasting. You will support the completion of annual tax returns by preparing schedules and compiling data required for income tax filings. You will also assist in preparing components of statutory and corporate reporting including Statistics Canada surveys and balance sheet budgets and reviews. A key focus for you will be to find process improvements that contribute to the overall efficiency of the finance team. As this role is intended for a CPA student, your focus will be to develop general skills across the finance function. Given this, you will often be called on to complete ad hoc projects as well as taking on new responsibilities as required. 

What you’ll do in this role:

  •  Balance Sheet account reconciliations for a significant number of accounts using Blackline.

  •  Key resource in month end and year end processing.

  • As SAP “gatekeeper”, enters Journal Vouchers into SAP throughout the month and at month end.

  • Treasury activities include: payment preparation, daily downloads of bank statements, lockbox and wire information from the bank portal; weekly reconciliations of the CAD and USD bank account and month end close procedures associated with cash. 

  • Manage intercompany account reconciliation

  • Statistics Canada survey preparation

  • Provide supporting information to Manager, Accounting for various components of tax return and US reporting packages

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, recommend solution, implement approved process

  • Special requests from management.

Job Specifications (Minimum Requirements)

Skill Factors (education, experience, communication, technical, etc.)

  • Post-secondary Degree

  • CPA designation in process or intention to start the CPA program

  • Fluency in English reflecting ability to communicate professionally (in writing and orally using proper grammar and spelling) with internal and external people; Proficiency in French an asset

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • SAP R/3 experience a strong asset

Working Conditions

  • Full time work hours - 7.5 hours/day, five days per week 

  • Expected to work from home until provincial/municipal government determines office workers are safe to return to the office environment. Once this occurs, role is expected to work in a well-ventilated modern office with natural and artificial light exposure
