Position Overview: 

The Health & Safety & Quality Assurance Technician will be primarily responsible for maintaining the implementation of activities related to the plant's health and safety program, and assures all aspects of product quality are met, including, but not limited to product testing, weights, and measures, blending procedures, documentation and finished product condition.

The Health & Safety & Quality Assurance Technician may be required to work on holidays and weekends from time to time.

Specific Accountabilities: 

Participate in the development, revision and implementation of programs, work procedures and training relating to health and safety;

Responsible for meeting quality standards for materials and products;

Support the implementation of the OHS program;

Responsible for executing all required testing and assuring compliance to specifications, which may include but not limited to product testing, weights, and measures, blending procedures, documentation and finished product condition;

Participate in changing occupational health and safety culture and act as an agent of change;

Maintain required record keeping/retention of quality documentation within the facility;

Prioritize and coordinate prevention activities;

Assure full compliance of all Scotts Miracle-Gro and Regulatory agency requirements that pertain to quality;

Perform data entry and data analysis in a timely manner;

Promote the prevention and the adoption of safe behaviours through communications and training or promotional activities;

Participate in OHS committees and other safety meetings;

Assist in investigations and analysis of incidents (incident reports, surveys, etc.);

Conduct monthly inspections;

Train new employees as part of their integration program and give all other training; Identify and analyze health and safety risks;

Maintain a safe and healthy working environment while respecting the standards, legislation and practices in place;

Carry out any additional duties as assigned.

Requisite Qualifications:

Related post-secondary education or equivalent combination of education and experience;

Experience in Quality Assurance role or EHS experience in an industrial setting, preferable;

Proficient with MS Office applications and systems;

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills;

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain relationships;

Team player; Planning & organization skills;

Ability to communicate in English and French is an asset.
