 We are recruiting an HR Manager, Mergers & Acquisitions who will join our Mergers and Acquisitions Team.

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company recognizes that our continued long-term success depends on executing our strategy and related initiatives with speed and efficacy.  To support that mission, we are looking for a high-performing Human Resources professional with experience performing due diligence and integration who can immediately support some of the Company’s top strategic initiatives. 

The HR Manager, Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) reports to the Director, M&A on the SOF Team which includes M&A and Strategy.  The M&A team is responsible for leading the end to end life cycle for mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, divestitures and other corporate transactions. The HR Manager, M&A’s responsibilities include project managing HR due diligence, planning for integration and separations and execution for all M&A transactions. Other responsibilities may include, but not be limited to, facilitating strategic planning processes, conducting market and competitive research (including field research), analyzing data and building market models, as well as supporting the overall M&A and Strategy function. The HR Manager, M&A works and collaborates with the HR Leadership team, primary HR Business Partner, multiple HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) as well as partners closely with the Strategy team. 

This is a key role on our M&A team, and we are looking for a high-performing, experienced candidate who has M&A experience and consulted with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Distribution teams.

The HR Manager, M&A role is primarily responsible for:

  • Support of HR due diligence and integration/separation activities, including providing project management support on multiple concurrent acquisitions, divestitures and other transactions.

  • Managing the HR due diligence and final reports for all investments.

  • Responsible for the development of project plans, tracking progress against plans, and communicating updates to the M&A and HR COE project team members.

  • Identify, track and monitor risks and issues for multiple projects.

  • Provide M&A progress updates and risk mitigation plans to stakeholders.

  • Work with HR COEs to conduct employee related data analysis (e. g. headcount, salary, benefits, etc.)

  • Work with M&A team and HR COEs to identify lessons learned and process improvements to support continuous improvement of HR M&A infrastructure.

  • Support and/or own HR M&A capability building projects including development of training materials for HR teams supporting deal activity.

  • Collaborate with the business unit and other team members to develop robust communication and/or change management plans in support of the defined initiatives.

The ideal candidate for the HR Manager, M&A position will meet the following requirements:

  • 4-7+ years of Corporate HR or HR consulting experience, with at least 2 years specifically in the Strategy and Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and/or Distribution M&A space

  • Experience working internationally and in virtual teams

  • Strong experience in project management (including with cross-functional teams and external advisors)

  • Strong relationship skills and comfortable working in an environment with tight deadlines and imperfect information

  • Ability to absorb, analyze and process large quantities of disparate information and synthesize it quickly with attention to detail. Strong Excel skills are necessary to perform the role

  • Deep knowledge of organizational change management

  • Ability to think strategically and plan effectively

  • Ability to work as a change agent including ability to influence and gain alignment with people at all levels in the organization

  • Strong presence, poise, and persuasiveness to establish high level of credibility quickly

  • Ability to partner with peers and team members demonstrating collaborative, effective teamwork

  • Ability to anticipate obstacles and plan contingencies

  • Strong perseverance abilities in the face of challenges and an ability to deal with conflicts constructively
