General Summary

The National Account Manager (NAM),  is a customer facing role responsible for account management, development, delivery, and the implementation of the sales plan to achieve sales goals. The NAM is the primary contact for the customer, and will be instrumental in directing the assortment, sales, promotions, analysis, and support vehicles for Amazon, emerging accounts, and supporting omni-channel accounts for Scotts Miracle-Gro.

The NAM must exercise outstanding communication and organizational skills plus the ability to develop, coordinate, communicate, and implement complex sales and marketing plans for the accounts.  This individual must be able to identify untapped businesses and establish internal and external relationships to deliver on these opportunities.  The successful candidate will be able to establish positive relationships and communication with the customer teams, including merchants and their team.

Key Work Performed

  • Build strong relationships and collaborate with the team, Customer Service, Supply Chain, Brand Marketing, and Finance to manage the day to day business of the accounts.

  • Drive the development of creative and innovative business solutions

  • Partner with the team to accurately forecast sales for both financial and inventory planning purposes

  • Build higher level relationships with sales accounts and agencies to ensure we maintain healthy relationships and are getting the most out of our internal and external partnerships.

  • Development of a multi-year strategy to evolve and build new retail partnerships then collaborate with cross functional teams to build the capabilities we need in order to execute that plan.

Job Specifications (Minimum Requirements)

A. Skill Factors (education, experience, knowledge, communication, technical, etc.)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or other relevant discipline required.

  • Ability to analyze category and product trends and translate them to executable strategies.

  • Thorough knowledge of online retailer policies/procedures

  • Work cross functionally to prepare programs ensuring distribution of all Scotts products as well as impactful promotional and feature plans with appropriate media and advertising support vehicles.

  • Manage accounts to exceed sales goals and aggressively identify new business opportunities and potential customers.

  • Drive the development of creative and innovative business solutions.

  • Collaborate with content and merchandising team to support online catalogs while meeting the customer requirements.

  • Build Relationships with merchant and customer marketing/media teams

  • Ability to think strategically

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills

  • Ability to effectively influence & negotiate

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)

  • Ability to both establish plans and drive execution

  • Ability to foster teamwork

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

B. Effort Factors (physical and mental demands)

  • Complex thinking includes effective problem solving and recommending options to senior management that meet specific customer expectations/needs and delivers on incremental volume opportunities.

  • Original thinking required to deliver on incremental ideas for volume lift.

  • Original thinking required to evaluate trends for new product and channel development.

C.  Working Conditions

  • Works the standard schedule of 37.5 hours per week; however, job requirements will include additional and/or extended work time as the business dictates

  • Works in a well-ventilated modern office with natural and artificial light exposure

  • Ability to regularly travel overnight by automobile or airplane

  • Visits “big box” retail stores with natural and artificial light exposure; forklifts and/or similar machinery is present

  • May be exposed to changes in temperature and humidity including indoor/outdoor working conditions

  • Current, valid drivers license for travel within designated region
