We are looking for a Manufacturing Director who will lead our Hawthorne Gardening Company. This position leads the North America, West manufacturing network for Hawthorne brands, and is located in the Vancouver, WA area (relocation package available). This position has direct responsibility for all service and financial metrics within this network. Responsibilities include analysis of manufacturing plant performance, capacity planning, and production execution. Lastly, this position understands and promotes safe and compliant operations and ensures freedom to operate through the enforcement of Standard Operating Procedures, company policy, all legal/regulatory considerations, and company/regional Safety and Quality procedures.

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Oversee plant operations including production, packaging, engineering, maintenance, warehousing, shipping, and receiving.

  • Directly lead a team 2 Plant Leaders (Woodland & Centennial) with teams totaling 10 salaried and 250+ hourly and seasonal associates.

  • Establish short and long-term strategic operating objectives that drive margin improvements. 

  • Identify and execute continuous improvement initiatives to drive value and improve the bottom line.

  • Review and approve operating budgets, capital plans, and cash flow budgets that support company initiatives.

  • Ensure company safety programs are best-in-class and part of the Scotts culture. 

  • Partner with Sales and Marketing in new product development and promotional strategies.

  • Drive activity to improve key performance areas such as safety, quality, financial, and customer service.  

  • Develop and maintain positive community relations: participate in community activities and organizations to promote good will and a positive company image.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree focused in Engineering (highly preferred), Supply Chain, Manufacturing or other related field. 

  • 3-5 years experience leading multiple plants preferred with a minimum of 5-7 years as the leader of a large manufacturing facility (200+ associates)

  • Minimum 7-10 years overall manufacturing experience with a focus on budgetary, capital planning, P&L responsibilities, continuous improvement, purchasing, distribution, associate development, and safety.  

  • A track record of developing long term strategic initiatives across multiple business functions. 

  • Ability to engage and inspire leaders and associates to deliver outstanding customer service.

  • Political savviness and the ability to interact with associates ranging from an hourly operator all the way up to the CEO. 

  • Exceptional communication skills and a passion for leading people.

  • Personal drive, and focus on continuous improvement. 

  • Strong business acumen, with a solid record of leading change and delivering results.

  • Flexibility to accommodate 35%+- travel as required based on business need.
