We are looking for a Marketing Brand Strategist who will join our Consumer Marketing Research team in Marysville, Ohio.

The Brand Strategist a critical role within Scotts Miracle-Gro’s “internal agency.” We are seeking an influencer to connect the dots across human behavior, creative development and marketing strategy. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, fact-driven thinker who can support our brand and creative development processes by uncovering trends, distilling insights, and synthesizing information for internal brand teams and external agency partners. The Brand Strategist should be the starting point for all marketing strategy and the go-to resource for strategic thinking around Scotts’ brands and consumer audiences. 


The Brand Strategist is responsible for working across brand team projects and will be expected to effectively collaborate with all internal and external agency teams (Account Management, Creative, Media, and Insights). This expert will report directly to the Director, Insights & Analytics and collaborate closely with the Vice President of Advertising. This job is the perfect opportunity to gain exposure to senior brand leaders, while working with internal/external agency leadership.

In this role you will:

  • Be a strategic ‘thought partner’ to brand teams, partnering on identification of key growth initiatives and development of marketing strategy. 

  • Lead workshops on topics such as brand positioning, naming, brand portfolio strategy, brand architecture. 

  • Work with Integrated Marketing team to define the complete Marketing Strategy (audience identification, single-minded proposition, RTB’s, and channel strategy).

  • Conduct primary research. Collaborate with brand and insights leaders to design studies which lead to new insights and actionable strategies. Synthesize findings from research into simple, actionable strategies that guide our brand and agency partners.

  • Provide actionable insights for creative briefs. Offer constructive, non-prescriptive feedback to ensure all creative deliverables align with overarching brand strategies and business goals.

  • Work with performance marketing team to identify real-time insights on audiences/messages to inform future strategy and in-season opportunities.

The perfect person will have:

  • 5+ years of advertising, branding or marketing experience; agency experience preferred but not required.

  • College degree in Business related field/Psychology/Social Behavior; MBA preferred.

  • Experience supporting branding engagements, including helping to produce strategic brand assets (positioning, brand personality traits, brand architecture and more).

  • A passion for creativity, brands, culture and technology and an understanding of how people think and behave.

  • An entrepreneurial spirit and a can-do attitude.

  • Ability to lead multiple projects with minimal supervision.

  • Strong written presentation/story-telling skills. Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking and analysis in business writing.

  • Able to influence and drive change.
