Job Snapshot

Job Description

Here at Scotts Miracle-Gro there is no such thing as a typical day.  Our culture is constantly energized by new and exciting growth opportunities and at a rapid pace.  Every Associate plays an important role in providing innovative solutions for today’s gardeners and growers and contributing new ideas to improve operations. In our company you need grit, it is what we were founded on over 150 years ago and is what keeps us growing. Regardless of your level in the organization there is a platform for your voice to be heard and the ability to influence change. Family, community and hard working values are weaved into all that we do. Come grow with us, where we develop and nurture the next generation of leaders.

We are looking for a Regional Human Resources Manager who will join our HR Supply Chain Team either in Marysville, OH (preferred location) or Remote. You will support multiple locations, which will include overnight travel, around 35% of the time.

Scotts Miracle-Gro is looking for a Regional Human Resource Manager to help support our Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Distribution facilities in North America.  If you were selected for this role, you would support 10 manufacturing facilities by leading investigations, employee related issues and answering day to day questions. You would also provide support to three of our Corporate Business Groups, partnering daily with the Vice Presidents. Process improvement is also critical as our business grows and continues to integrate and being able to partner with leadership and the business will be key.  If you are innovative and able to drive change, engage, and influence the business to implement new ideas/programs, this is the opportunity for you!

Everyday you will:

  • Be the face of HR to your business groups and facilities, providing the highest level of business partnership and company stewardship

  • Focus on how we can win the day and win tomorrow through continuous improvement

  • Engage leaders at all levels through projects and day to day support

To thrive in this role you must be:

  • A self starter who operates well independently and in a team environment.

  • A strategic and tactical contributor by delivering comprehensive, practical human resource solutions to the managers and associates

  • A talent scout- identifying opportunities to upgrade our talent, both internally and externally; communicating and training leaders on appropriate talent development techniques and forums.

  • An ambassador of our culture- inspiring all to bring their best daily and living/leading our values.

  • An experienced HR professional- ideally with 5 years of experience in an HR Generalist type role and a Bachelor’s degree. Certifications are a plus as they are achieved based on training and experience.

  • Curious- demonstrating an innate desire to learn how things work and how things can be improved.

  • Energized by high change environments and is comfortable with ambiguity.

  • A problem solver- using creative avenues to solve problems, demonstrating both breadth and depth; demonstrating strong judgment and proven ability to diagnose issues, drawing on both professional experience and strategic thinking skills to drive appropriate solutions with self-initiative.

Experienced with:

  • Supporting multiple supply chain, manufacturing, and/or distribution sites in different geographies and know that not every work environment or culture is the same.  Since most of your facilities will be remote, you will have built relationships through travel and remote interactions.

  • A supply chain, manufacturing, and/or distribution environment. You must understand the priorities and experience of the front-line associate and can speak the language of the factory or warehouse floor. Safety, efficiency, employee relations and engagement are second nature as well as providing sound advice and counsel to front-line leaders.

  • A matrixed HR support model (centers of excellence - compensation, payroll, talent management, talent acquisition, shared services, etc.) Have worked closely with the HR leadership and corporate HR on the business’ needs and support them by driving the implementation of compensation programs, benefits, talent management/acquisition and other needed programs.

  • Extensive Employee Relations experience/expertise (i.e. leading investigations from investigation to conclusion, coaching Leaders at all levels with regards to feedback/development, managing EEOC claims, leading conflict resolution)

  • Talent management / talent planning  - upgrading talent through workforce planning and working with newer managers

  • Have supported front-line associates, managers, executives, etc.

What makes this role unique from others:

  • Many jobs say “fast-paced” and keeping up with the day to day.  We would describe this role as fast-paced but high-change - just because we do something one way one day, doesn’t mean it will be the same tomorrow.  Constantly thinking forward and being proactive to solve problems better than yesterday’s solution.

  • You will also work closely with centers-of-excellence and peers to drive consistent practices across the company by stakeholdering and aligning where necessary.

  • Scotts is a growing company and our industry is growing rapidly.  We feel like a start-up in some ways but are a 151 year old company. There are opportunities for growth at any level of the company.

What we do for you (just to list a few cool ones):

  • Competitive benefits including Health, Dental and Vision coverage.

  • Onsite gym facilities at both corporate locations in Marysville, OH and Vancouver, WA.

  • Fitness Club Reimbursement ($350) for remote employees.

  • Nutrition reimbursement program (up to $200 per associate and per spouse).

  • Immediate eligibility 401K match (up to 7.5%) with vesting and match.

  • Immediate eligibility Discounted stock purchase program (15% discount).

  • Our commitment to diversity and inclusion includes employee resource groups: Scotts Women’s Network, Scotts Black Employee Network, Scotts Veterans Network, GroPride Network, Scotts Associates for a Greener Earth (SAGE), and Scotts Young Professionals.

  • 13 paid holidays and generous vacation policy.
