We are looking for a Live Goods Specialist who will join our Research and Development team.

This position will be based at The Scotts Miracle-Gro world headquarters in Marysville, a suburb of Columbus, OH. Not familiar with Columbus? Visit columbusregion.com/columbus-2020/

The objectives for the Live Goods program are to 1) develop novel and value-added live goods products, 2) effective and efficient production practices and 3) improve consumer garden experience through enhanced techniques or inputs. The Biology Specialist Live Goods Plants will be working in a hands-on environment within a multifunctional team and should have solid communication skills.

In this role you will:

  • Assist with the execution of scientific experiments that may include the evaluation of horticultural genetics, growing media, fertilizer and crop protection ingredients;

  • Weigh and mix experimental growing media formulations;

  • Oversee greenhouse young plant production including planting, environmental monitoring, pest control, plant growth regulator applications, watering, feeding, and general maintenance;

  • Execute garden research trials including preparing, planting, developing timelines for key trial activities, and overall caring for field trials;

  • Collect and analyze data to present to leadership;

  • Be responsible for data entry and taking photographs;

  • Assist with presentation preparation;

  • Organize and maintain general laboratory and other experimental facilities standards;

  • Work occasional weekends in the greenhouse or field.

The perfect person will have:

  • BS degree required in Horticulture, Biology or Agronomy;

  • 3+ years of industry experience in a laboratory, greenhouse or field setting;

  • Greenhouse or field crop production experience;

  • Plug and/or liner production experience;

  • Familiarity with statistical analysis;

  • Experience presenting information effectively that a diverse audience can understand;

  • Horticulture, plant physiology, or turf grass knowledge;

  • Plant nutrition and crop protection products knowledge;

  • Important attributes:

Some other nice to haves:

  • MS degree highly desirable; or 10 plus years of comparable experience.
