We are looking for a Sr Analyst, Regulatory Affairs who will join our R&D team in the Mississauga office.

The Senior Regulatory Analyst’s primary role is to independently coordinate and execute projects as assigned by the Supervisor, Regulatory Affairs.  This involves all aspects of regulatory compliance, registration compliance and label approval.   S/he will track and communicate regulatory policy and provincial legislative changes affecting Scotts products. S/he will provide technical support for provincial and federal issues for consumer lawn and garden products, develop internal processes and procedures to efficiently accomplish high customer service levels and ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations. S/he will also interact with provincial and local control officials and industry counterparts to represent the Company’s interests and minimize the impact of new/changing legislation to the business. This role will also function as back-up to the Regulatory Specialist and will assume his/her responsibilities whenever s/he is absent from work.

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Independently develops registration strategies and manages consumer product registrations of all Scotts products which includes collecting data and follow up information to support successful registrations, ensuring label quality and compliance, and obtaining and maintaining product registration.

  • Ensures compliance of all products and related activities to applicable regulations and standards, which includes but is not limited to Pest Control Products, Fertilizer, Consumer Products, Seeds, Environmental, Post-consumer Waste Regulations.

  • Prepares and maintains appropriate reporting, correspondence with Agencies, documentation and licensing to support compliance.

  • Actively provides technical and functional area support (Regulatory Department support, Inspection Notices responses, SAP Master data and reporting) to minimize regulatory risk and impacts to the business. 

  • Keeps current on regulatory requirements through self-study/attendance at conferences/training seminars.

  • Develops company positions and provides input to industry positions to mitigate business impacts of new/changing legislation.

  • Represents Scotts during Regulatory and government relations interactions and builds relationships with same, participates in industry workshops and Regulatory forums.

  • Assists with stakeholder (customers, public, etc.) activities to support a positive image of Scotts Canada.

  • Monitors applicable legal requirements related to Scotts products and registrations at national, provincial and local levels and develops, implements and communicates plans to ensure compliance.

  • Actively provides Regulatory support to other functional areas (R&D, Marketing, Supply Chain) in order to plan and execute projects that are strategic to the business.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological or Physical Science

  • Greater than five years Regulatory experience (or related fields)

  • Solid knowledge of provincial and/or federal government regulations. 

  • Demonstrated ability to build strategic work relationships

  • Strong oral and written communication skills as well as presentation abilities

  • Ability to improvise within set boundaries and design work to achieve set objectives

  • Ability to recommend registration options based on defined objectives, organize data in a straightforward and logical manner and be able to offer interpretation of information, regulations, and provincial policies to supervisor

  • Excellent skills in data management, information analysis and report writing

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with keen ability to adapt and relate to various personalities e.g. regulatory analysts to politicians

  • Intermediate Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google applications

  • SAP Experience is an asset

  • Knowledge of French language is an asset

  • Superior organizational and follow up skills

  • Physical is limited to those normally associated with other support positions in the company e.g. standing, walking and sitting, often for long durations at the computer

  • Works the standard schedule of 37.5 hours per week; however, job requirements will include additional and/or extended work time as the business dictates

  • Works in a well-ventilated modern office with natural and artificial light exposure

  • Overnight travel required up to two days per month.

  • Day travel required up to two days per month.
