 We are looking for a Technical Manager, who will grow at our Fort Madison, IA liquids manufacturing plant. 

If you enjoy leading in a fast-paced and high energy manufacturing environment, then you will fit in well as the Technical Manager for Scotts Miracle-Gro.  On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for driving safety, quality, productivity, and project/product development activities improvements in the Fort Madison, Iowa production facility.

In this role you will:

  • Oversee and coordinate all technical support for the Fort Madison, IA plant. Including management of the Engineering, Maintenance, and Formulation departments.

  • Directly lead a team of 3 salaried associates, and indirectly lead 23 hourly across a three shift operation.

  • Ensure a best-in-class Safety, Environmental, and Health culture by executing and improving upon existing processes and programs and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local and company requirements.

  • Manage the site capital budget and capital execution functions as well as supporting Brand and R&D initiatives in the manufacturability of new and existing products.

  • Develop a continuous improvement culture and opportunities to reduce manufacturing cost, improve product quality, and improve overall throughput through program optimization, process improvements, and equipment reliability. 

  • Accountable for the department budget and spend execution.

  • Oversee on all building maintenance and improvements, including utilities and security systems and contractor/vendor maintenance for building and equipment repairs and other facility related services.

  • Provide leadership direction and support to the facility through participation on the plant leadership team and by positively interfacing with support teams such as Safety, Quality, Production, Maintenance, and Scheduling.

  • Develop and maintain positive associate and community relations. Participate in community events and activities and organizations to promote good will and a positive company image.

The perfect person will have:

  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering (Manufacturing, Industrial, Chemical or Mechanical) or other related field highly desired.

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of Engineering/Management leadership experience in a plant environment (preferably in a packaging operation).

  • Experience in initiating and leading maintenance programs, capital expenditures, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Exceptional communication skills and a passion for leading people.

  • Personal drive, and focus on continuous improvement

  • Ability to help develop/drive strategic improvement initiatives and the willingness and desire to grow into future manufacturing positions and the ability to relocate to other Scott Miracle-Gro locations.

  • Proven experience in computers and standard software packages (MS Office, Google Suite, and SAP).

  • Strong leadership skills and a highly effective communicator with great time management.

  • The ability to adapt to flexible work schedule and/or hours within a seasonal business.
