General Summary

The primary purpose of the Sales Operation Analyst is to drive category management principles through the application of strong data analytics and consumer insights, hence providing value added services to Scotts Canada Ltd.’s internal business.  S/he will work closely with the Sales team to provide business intelligence through the cross analysis of multiple sources of data. S/he will highlight areas of opportunity/risk by combining consumer insights, POS & shipment analytics.

The secondary purpose is to support to Scotts National Field Manager and the Retail Field Sales Teams. S/he will ensure all tools, reporting and program details are available to the field to ensure smooth execution of all national programs at field level.   

Key Work Performed

Retail Field Analysis/Support

  • Manage communication to the Field Sales Team which includes production and management of all processes (Google); production and consolidation of field surveys, maintenance of the 2 orientation sites, revisions to both SM and M&C manuals, and creation of bi-weekly retailer communications
  • Manage all POP materials and field sales equipment/tools to the field team including coordination and distribution of warehouse fulfillment (clothing/uniforms and swag)
  • Provide increased visibility through daily and weekly reporting tools to the field Sales teams based on customer specific data, POS trending and shipment analysis
  • Manage the VMI reports to ensure information is accurate and provide improvements to ensure the reports are providing all the details required by the field.
  • Analyze data to assist the field sales team in identifying business issues and opportunities and achieving specific account objectives. 
  • Manage the communication to the Field Sale team which includes maintenance of the 2 orientation sites, both SM and M&C manuals, field surveys and bi-weekly retailer communications

Category Management/POS Analysis

  • Provide “business intelligence” regarding trending, shipments analysis and budget comparisons to all areas of the Scotts business
  • Act as a main liaison of information between all stakeholders in the organization and support on-going reporting and analysis to/for Senior Leadership
  • Maintain customized/standardized POS and shipment data reporting across all Scotts Business units
  • Act as an integral partner of the sales team by identifying  and clearly defining the key category and customer opportunities/risks, that help shape retailer strategies and sales tactics
  • Use POS data to add intelligence to new products product introductions, customer insights, account comparison, and competitive analysis
  • Maintains this database and provides competitive information and research data for internal sales.
  • Review, monitor and access operational performance against forecast, budget and sales goals

Job Specifications (Minimum Requirements)

Skill Factors (education, experience, communication, technical, etc.)

  • Post-secondary Degree/Diploma
  • One year proven experience in category analysis/management demonstrating ability to perform responsibilities similar to the key performance work list above
  • Two year’s experience in Consumer Packaged Goods work setting
  • Superior communication and presentation skills in English reflecting the ability to communicate professionally with all levels of management
  • Superior proficiency in Microsoft excel, with the ability to navigate data through key strokes, and manipulate it via advanced formulas(CONTIF, SUMIF, RANK, FIND, CONCATENATE, REPLACE, VLOOKUP, MATCH, INDEX, LARGE, ETC) and custom number formatting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with Google, Survey Monkey, social media

Working Conditions

  • Works the standard schedule of 37.5 hours per week; however, job requirements will include additional and/or extended work time as the business dictates
  • Works in a well-ventilated modern office with natural and artificial light exposure
  • Travel as required by the Company
