We are looking for an Associate Creative Director (ACD) who will join our Garden’s Marketing team in Columbus, Ohio.  If you are outside the Columbus Market, we would be open to remote work or eventually move to this great town.  

We are looking for an ultra-talented Associate Creative Director to lead creative and production projects from concept creation to completion with our category leading Gardens brands (Miracle-Gro, Bonnie, AeroGarden). The ACD is a unique, cross-functional creative role within Scotts Miracle-Gro. Equal parts maker and manager of work. You will spend just as much time designing, sketching, editing, shooting, and making as you will leading work streams where you are managing and eliciting excellent creative work from others. We want you shooting photos, flying drones, making GIFs and generally doing whatever you need to do to help make excellent creative work for your brands.

The role can also be considered "brand steward" for the various creative needs for our brands, where the CM is responsible for making sure we are expressing our creative according to their exact positioning and guidelines, including language, copy, voice and tone, logo usage, color usage, typography usage, and imagery usage. Wherever the brand manifests itself, the ACD needs to be able to consult and guide the work from a creative perspective including packaging, secondary, POP, signage, printed collateral, advertising, social, digital and owned communication channels. The CM will consult with our internal teams and external creative agencies to help manage these work streams. 

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Supporting the Creative Director with the design and development of concepts, strategies, and presentations across packaging, advertising, and our owned channels.

  • Managing and supervising multiple projects and teams across the enterprise and with our external agency partners.

  • Ensuring resources are allocated according to project needs.

  • Ensuring proper brand identity and message consistency across channels.

  • Meeting client objectives, values, budgets, and deadlines.

  • Leading and participating in brainstorming sessions.

  • Lead and plan photo and video shoots.

  • Keeping up with the latest trends, strategies, and technologies.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Degree in graphic design or related field.

  • 10+ years of creative brand or agency experience.

  • Solid knowledge of marketing, brand, and design principles and development.

  • Must be an excellent, detail-oriented designer with a passion for typography, layout, color and pixel perfect creative execution.

  • Experience leading and managing creative teams.

  • Strong concept and strategy development skills.

  • Expert with traditional and progressive printing processes, materials, substrates, color and ink.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

  • Expertise with the Adobe Suite of tools.

  • Experience with illustration, video editing and animation is a plus.

  • Gardening enthusiasts are a huge plus (or quickly willing to get hands in the dirt!)

  • 20% travel as necessary to support various work streams.
