We are looking for a Biology Technician who will join our R&D Gardens team in Marysville.

This position will be based at The Scotts Miracle-Gro world headquarters in Marysville, a suburb of Columbus, OH.  Not familiar with Columbus? Visit


The Biology Technician will be responsible for field, greenhouse and/or laboratory testing of new or experimental products that will include potting mixes, garden soils, fertilizers, soil amendments, and/or other gardening products.

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Set up trial areas for laboratory, greenhouse and field experiments

  • Prepare and tests developmental and commercial formulations

  • Collect and record laboratory data and information from preparations and tests

  • Prepare and apply treatments

  • Utilize experimental design concepts

  • Maintain greenhouse and field crop production

  • Ships chemicals, manages waste and chemical inventory, and supports safety program

  • Maintain field trial areas and associated equipment

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Minimum high school diploma with experience in lawn and garden maintenance

  • AS or BS degree in biology, botany, agronomy or horticulture and/or industry experience in a laboratory, greenhouse or field setting are desired

  • Attention to detail, accuracy and basic math skills

  • Observational skills to identify visual differences in plant performance

  • Ability to follow work instructions and test protocol

  • Personal drive and ability to be a self-starter and work unsupervised

  • Ability to lift 50lb required

  • Ability to operate equipment such as mowers, tractors, utility carts, sprayers, spreaders and other typical equipment used to maintain lawns and greenhouses

  • Basic computer skills including: use of spreadsheets, word processing and email
