The Director, eCommerce Sales - Omnichannel & Emerging Accounts is responsible for leading the team that is in charge of account management, development, delivery, and implementation of the sales plan that achieves sales goals for Omnichannel and Emerging Accounts for Scotts Miracle-Gro and Hawthorne. This role will report into Corporate in Columbus, Ohio. The team would prefer that you live in Columbus, Ohio but open to remote candidates if the right candidate comes along.

This individual will be instrumental in directing the assortment, sales, promotions, analysis, and support vehicles for Omnichannel and emerging accounts for Scotts Miracle-Gro and Hawthorne. Emerging accounts would include but not limited to customers such as Wayfair, eBay, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Kohls, and Macy’s. 

The team reporting to this role will be the primary contact for the customer and work in sync with the cross functional eCommerce team.  This person will be responsible for developing the overarching strategy for both Omnichanel and emerging accounts. His or her team will need to work with Omnichannel BDT, Shopper Marketing and Supply Chain to ensure that we have the right support to deliver our expected business results. Additionally, he or she will ensure the team works closely with other eCommerce cross functional teams including finance and content team to support the customer on a day to day basis.

The Director must exercise outstanding communication and organizational skills plus the ability to develop, coordinate, communicate, and implement complex strategic plans for the eCommerce retailer channel and accounts. This individual must be able to identify untapped businesses and establish internal and external relationships to deliver on these opportunities. The successful candidate will be able to establish positive relationships and communication with the customer teams, including the Merchant Director and their team. 

Key Work Performed

  • Build strong relationships and collaboration with the team and Customer Service, Supply Chain, Brand Marketing, and finance to manage the day to day business of the accounts. 

  • Ensure team prepares programs and line reviews to maximize distribution and sales for Scotts, HGC and AG products 

  • Aggressively identify new business opportunities for Omnichannel accounts

  • Drive the development of creative and innovative business solutions.

  • Provide overarching strategy to digital and marketing teams to ensure that we develop effective and efficient media, search and retail marketing programs to drive awareness and sales of our products

  • Partner with the team to accurately forecast sales for both financial and inventory planning purposes

  • Build higher level relationships with sales accounts and agencies to ensure we maintain healthy relationships and are getting the most out of our partnerships

  • Guide the team in development of a multi-year strategy to evolve and build new retail partnerships then collaborate with cross functional teams to build the capabilities we need in order to execute that plan

  • Enable the team to grow new accounts by helping them secure resources and funding for critical initiates

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or other relevant discipline required. 

  • Minimum of 5 years sales/account management experience. 

  • E-Commerce experience preferred.

  • National Account retail sales experience for CPG preferred. 

  • Customer Systems/Portal experience preferred. 

  • Ability to analyze category and product trends and translate them to executable strategies. 

  • Project management skills preferred

  • Requires advanced communication and presentation skills. 

  • Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency. 

Knowledge: 

  • This individual should be adept at leading a team through the annual “sales cycle”. 

  • A solid fundamental knowledge of seasonal retail activities, financials, and E-Commerce is important. 

  • Thorough knowledge of online retailer policies, and procedures is preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge of retailing activity such as developing & implementing account programs & merchandising tactics.
