We are looking for a Director of Transportation who will join our supply chain team in Marysville, OH.

The Transportation Director is responsible for leadership in strategy, planning & execution of transportation for a $2.5 billion US consumer business unit. Overall responsibilities include implementation of best practices across transportation disciplines to support world class operations. This position has direct responsibility for all service, financial and corporate compliance metrics related to freight in and freight outbound from this distribution network. This position understands and promotes safe and compliant warehouse operations and ensures freedom to operate through the enforcement of standard operating procedures, company policy, all legal/regulatory considerations, and company/regional safety and quality procedures.

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Leader to drive game changing solutions and strategic initiatives within transportation to drive improved operational efficiency, truck utilization and network design.

  • Develop transportation strategies (6Q Plans) in alignment with Supply Chain goals.

  • Relationship owner between the 3PL warehouse and transportation providers and all Scotts corporate business partners (Business Development Teams, Purchasing, Customer Service, Sales, etc.) to promote exceptional service to customers.

  • Maintain all 3rd party logistics contracts, including annual renewals and any changes associated with SC operational changes.

  • Drive operational excellence through key performance indicators (for freight inbound to the distribution network, and freight outbound to customers) that hold providers accountable for improved performance.

  • Fosters a team environment and engages providers to drive superior performance.

  • Provides support for future distribution and network changes, system installations, new product launches, product transitions, and acquisitions.

  • Develop & execute talent acquisition and performance management in the context of organizational succession plans.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Experienced leader in Supply Chain distribution, leading transportation for a multi-site distribution network. Minimum 10 years of leadership in transportation roles (both field & corporate) with a consumer goods company, including demonstrated experience with cost crushing, best practice freight management and people development.

  • Requires experience and understanding of end to end Supply Chain including transportation, customer service, financial policies and procedures. Exposure to private fleet management preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge of compliance and safety requirements associated with the management of multi-site distribution networks.

  • Strong business acumen, with a solid record of leading change and delivering results.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and initiative in developing and  executing strategies, effectively communicating with all levels of Management.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, supply chain management, operations, finance or other related degree.

  • Flexibility to accommodate 25% travel is required based on business needs.

  • Has led through or sponsored at a management level future TMS solution.
