We are looking for a Software Technology & Development, Director who will join our Digital team in Marysville, Ohio.

The Software Technology & Development, Director will be responsible for accelerating the growth of our business and brands by directing the technology strategy and software development activities for our digital and e-commerce team. This includes specific responsibility for new software development, database and system configuration, enhancements and upgrades, migrations and production support.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a deep understanding and hands-on experience in the software development, consumer experience and technical architecture required to build highly scalable and secure technology platforms, data integrations and e-commerce systems. In support of these efforts, this individual will lead a talented team of 10-15 managers and specialists in coding, architecture, project management, BA, and quality roles across the entire technology stack.

In this role you will:

  • Operate as a player-coach, leading by example as you work with and guide your team to implement successful technology solutions that drive sales and provide a superior consumer experience;

  • Drive the long-term technology strategies (architecture, platform, process, and testing) that empower digital marketing, e-commerce and consumer engagement for all Scotts brands;

  • Ensure a services-oriented approach creating the opportunity for re-use of technology solutions across our ever-expanding digital ecosystem;

  • Manage and drive relationships with key platform vendors/technologies (Google Cloud, Magento, Avalara, Ubuntu, Acquia, Akamai, BazaarVoice, Adobe, Kubernetes, and others), ensuring that our needs are addressed and aligned.

  • Collaborate with our Enterprise IT team, delivering business requirements for SAP interfaces, enterprise security/identity integrations and related IT functions;

  • Collaborate with Director- and VP-level peers in the Marketing Services, Digital Experiences, and Performance Marketing teams to ensure our solutions are integrated and additive;

  • Interview, hire, develop, and coach technology team members in order to lead an organization capable of accomplishing rapidly changing business needs;

  • Ensure your team has the support and tools needed to deliver positive outcomes to the business;

  • Develop, manage and evangelize a continuous testing plan that ensures performance and scalability of all digital marketing and DTC technology systems;

  • Define, monitor and deliver maximum digital channel performance/speed through coding, architectural, and infrastructure choices;

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge of the industry and the technology platforms that underpin our consumer-facing platform and internal ecosystem;

  • Work with project managers to identify opportunities for process improvement and implement changes to eliminate waste and reduce technical debt;

  • Work with project managers and business owners to identify, select and manage third-party development resources that assist in new projects or staff augmentation as needed;

  • Work with Information Security to ensure PCI Level 2/3, SOX, and SOC 2 compliance

  • Own and operate within a multi-million dollar, multi-year capital budget and roadmap representing an investment in our next-generation e-commerce technology platform

  • Advocate for the continuous improvement of digital solutions by developing new processes and optimize existing internal processes to improve collaboration, stakeholder participation, documentation practices, and end-user experiences; and

  • Perform as a thought-leader within the organization, actively educating associates and executives about the opportunities and challenges for digital marketing, technology, and software development;

The perfect person will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree or advanced degree in Computer Science, MIS, Business or related fields;

  • 15 years or greater of technology, software development, and transactional/commerce experience;

  • Proven work experience as a technology leader on a category-leading consumer brand/e-commerce brand or through a body of work from a nationally-recognized digital agency;

  • Demonstrated, deep understanding of relevant technology platforms, development methodologies, security best practices, testing protocols, consumer data, and analytics.

  • Ability to manage relationships with third-party partners and external agencies, ensuring they understand and can operate within our systems;

  • Confidence and integrity to earn internal team and agency trust quickly;

  • Familiarity with best practices and applicable compliance requirements for Personal Identifiable Information (PII), Payment Card Industry (PCI) and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR);

  • Flexibility in working with a cross-functional team of marketers and strategists;

  • Exceptional communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences, including executives; and

  • Exhibited capacity to deliver on a variety of high-profile assignments under tight due dates.
