We are looking for an Distribution Director who will join our growing Scotts Miracle Gro Supply Chain team!

This position may be based at The Scotts Miracle-Gro world headquarters in Marysville, a suburb of Columbus, OH. We may also consider candidates in the Midwest or other locations depending on availability to travel.

As the Distribution Director, you would lead the lawn, garden and controls 3PL and internal distribution network for Scotts Miracle-Gro brands. This position has direct responsibility for all service and financial metrics within this distribution network.  Responsibilities include analysis of warehouse and carrier performance, capacity planning, shipment execution, and provider/carrier collaboration, including contract management. Lastly, this position understands and promotes safe and compliant warehouse operations and ensures freedom to operate through the enforcement of standard operating procedures, company policy, all legal/regulatory considerations, and company/regional safety and quality procedures.

This role has high visibility to our leadership team and will have high growth potential into a Senior Leadership role.

What you'll do in this role:

  • Relationship owner between the 3PL warehouse and transportation providers and all Scotts corporate business partners (Business Development Teams, Purchasing, Customer Service, Sales, etc.) to promote exceptional service to customers while maintaining efficient distribution operations.

  • Maintain all 3rd party logistics contracts, including annual renewals and any changes associated with SC operational changes.

  • Leader to drive game changing solutions and strategic initiatives within the warehouse network to drive improved operational efficiency, space utilization and network design.

  • Responsible for all performance metrics within the network for inventory management and control, including annual physical inventories, cycle counts, and corporate internal audits.

  • Drive operational excellence through key performance indicators in inbound, production and outbound operations to hold 3PL providers accountable for improved performance.

  • Evaluates historical inventory data and collaborates with purchasing and finance to maximize cash flow opportunities.

  • Fosters a team environment and engages providers to drive superior performance. 

  • Provides support for warehousing network changes, system installations, new product launches, product transitions, and acquisitions

What you''ll need to be successful:

  • Experienced leader in Supply Chain distribution, leading multi-site distribution locations. Minimum of 10 years of distribution/warehouse operations or logistics operations preferred. 

  • Analytical experience and knowledge of supply chain processes and procedures within a manufacturing CPG company and general knowledge of retail business a plus.

  • Experience in leading both freight and warehouse operations preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, supply chain management, operations, finance or other related degree.

  • Exposure to compliance and safety requirements associated with the management of multi-site warehouse operations.

  • Ability to engage and collaborate with 3PL provider leadership to help deliver outstanding customer service through action plans and execution.

  • Strong business acumen, with a solid record of leading change and delivering results.

  • Flexibility to accommodate 35% travel is required based on business needs.

  • Strong leadership attributes in demonstrated outcomes in leading through others and financial acumen

  • Highest knowledge and demonstrated performance of Key Performance Indicators, including success stories through culture change

  • Has led through or sponsored at a management level future WMS or TMS solutions 

  • Ability to initiate/manage cross-functional teams and multi-disciplinary projects 

  • Critical thinking, decision making and problem solving skills

  • Adaptability – efficient under pressure, always meet deadlines

  • Result oriented: ability to achieve the target within the given time

  • Excellence communication skills

  • Contract management and effective negotiation skills
