We are looking for a Distribution Manager who will join our Supply Chain team in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

The Distribution Manager is responsible for logistical oversight for Scotts Miracle-Gro products and goods, including but not limited to managing third-party logistics, inter-provincial and international transportation, distribution, and the Commonwealth Handling Equipment Pool (CHEP). They will be extremely knowledgeable of government legislative compliance. The incumbent will empower team members to achieve business objectives by hiring the right people, developing, coaching and retaining top talent.  They may be required to work on holidays and weekends from time to time.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Oversees Contracted companies in all facets of the distribution operation to ensure products get properly picked, packaged, and delivered to customers on time

  • Responsible for transportation tendering processes, ensuring controls and approvals are upheld

  • Administers inter-provincial and international shipping operations (road, rail), and associated governmental compliances

  • Act as a change agent by analyzing and making improvement recommendations to established processes and procedures in the distribution of Finished goods and Packaging materials for all Distribution and delivery operations

  • Administers key performance indicators related to freight, fuel costs and associated operational expenditures

  • Strong focus on continuous improvements and streamlining processes for efficiencies while promoting best practices

  • Establish or monitor specific supply chain-based performance measurement systems

  • Working closely with distribution channels and third party logistics partners and facilities

  • Maintain metrics, reports, process documentation, customer service logs, training and/or safety records

  • Manages multiple facilities in Canada, while overseeing distribution centre contracts and operating budgets

  • Carry out any additional duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • A post-secondary degree in engineering, business, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a leadership capacity, managing a team of logistics and distribution professionals

  • Ability to communicate in English and French a strong asset

  • Knowledge in Six Sigma and Lean Practice an asset

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively on a team and with a wide range of individuals

  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal & negotiation skills, management ability, leadership, teamwork and judgement

  • Diplomacy, tact and decision making ability

  • Planning & organization skills

  • Current, valid drivers license

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Complies with all Scotts policies and procedures including Health & Safety

Working Conditions

  • Works the standard schedule of 37.5 hours per week; however, job requirements will include additional and/or extended work time as the business dictates

  • Evening and weekend work necessary as the business/position dictates

  • Ability to travel overnight by automobile or airline (10% of time; majority of travel within Canada)

  • Works in 3rd party warehouses with natural and artificial light exposure; forklifts, trucks and machinery are present

  • May be exposed to changes in temperature and humidity including indoor/outdoor working conditions
