We are looking for a eCommerce Product Content Specialist who will grow at our corporate office in Marysville, Ohio.

The eCommerce Product Content Specialist will be responsible for managing the life cycle of product content for all ScottsMiracle-Gro brands including the following: product names, bullets, descriptions, defining attributes, SEO, product images, alt images, etc. This position will work with several cross-functional teams and external resources to accomplish timely creation and integrity of product content as well as align with Business Development and Marketing teams on strategies and priorities.

An integral part of this position requires a great deal of problem solving, analytical skills, and regular communication across multiple departments and with external partners in order to improve eCommerce-related product content and strategy. Must be able to identify areas to enhance product content for a better consumer experience; improve accuracy and relevancy; as well as measure ROI of content improvements for ongoing enhancements to drive sales. This role is highly process and detail oriented.

This role will report to the Manager, eCommerce Digital & Content.

In this role you will:

E-Commerce Content Creation:

  • Manage the creation of all product content including, but not limited to, product titles, claims, bullets, descriptions, attributes, etc.
  • Manage product content (SKU) workflows with high volume of items at one time (upwards of 1000+ products); including monitoring status for both content and image development and delivery across all categories and brands. Includes management of internal review and approvals of product content to Legal, Regulatory, Marketing, Creative, etc.;
  • Oversee internal and external resources for content development. Work closely with Marketing, Packaging, Legal, Regulatory, Master Data, Business Development Teams and copywriting resources to manage complex SKU information;
  • Review, proofread, edit and / or revise copy for accuracy, grammar, and punctuation;
  • Deliver quality product copy to effectively sell the product by required deadlines;
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of product content development strategy and an ability to independently execute product development plans;
  • Maintain and manage content in the product database and PIM systems;
  • Maintain specialized product knowledge with a comprehensive understanding of SMG product features, benefits and instructions for use, product pack shots, etc.;
  • Maintain a core understanding of SKU each, case and pallet configurations. Must be able to take SKU level data and drive this information across SKU level content and/or SKU product families,  and also SKU transitions to new versions;
  • Manage ongoing maintenance and improvement for product listings (title, description, images, reviews, prices, product specs, customer questions, etc.) to increase selling performance;
  • Support SEO strategies and initiatives to ensure content is properly optimized for search engine success;
  • Provide additional support for the creation of product content including: main and alternative images, enhanced A+ content, etc.

E-Commerce Content & Asset Management:

  • Lead/own the SMG Product Database to maintain, update and utilize database / content management system for all product copy and assets (including videos, A+, enhanced and rich media content, product labels, etc.);
  • Serve as admin support for other internal Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems, support adding keywords, intake from photo shoots, process management, etc.;
  • Support internal and external requests for product content collections;
  • Manage and maintain other product marketing assets as needed, e.g. Point of purchase, advertising, etc.

PIM & Asset Management Platforms & Partner Relationships:

  • Manage internal Product Database platform – includes owning product content setup, assisting with system development/enhancements and upgrades, user accounts and new user training as needed;
  • Assist in managing various Retailer partnerships. Responsibilities can include gathering data for review, submitting assets, and/or direct communication;
  • Provide support as needed for content publishing on eCommerce Retailer content platforms including, but not limited to: Edgenet, Vendor Central, Webcollage, Sellpoints, Scene7, etc.

Content Best Practice and Compliance:

  • Maintain an active understanding of all Retailer-specific content guidelines, upcoming enhancements and best practices, as well as internal legal and compliance review and approval processes (including FIFRA);
  • Support programs provided by each retailer to enhance, monitor and manage product content and proactively plan for upcoming needs;
  • Perform ongoing maintenance for specific retailers to correct any inaccuracies appearing in product descriptions, specifications, images, etc.;
  • Provide support as needed for ongoing monthly manual product content audits and/or content auditing software to ensure compliance and accuracy of published content on SMG-owned and Retailer sites and awareness of content scorecards across retail partners.

Project Management and Organization:

  • Ensure all content is created on time and without error and adheres to required SMG review and approval processes;
  • Develop process improvements and lead team to create/update process documentation for product content creation;
  • Use existing online project management system to manage assignments and oversee internal and external resources to meet project deliverables and deadlines;
  • Manage project budget tracking and reporting as needed;
  • Provide weekly status report updates as requested.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and execute product content enhancements that aid in customer buying decision to improve conversion and advance existing product content to be more consumer friendly. Includes managing implementation across cross-functional partners;
  • Identify opportunities to further differentiate SMG content from competition and project manage ROI testing and rollout of beneficial enhancements;
  • Manage A/B testing experiments for product content to increase conversion;
  • Identify and execute product content creation and deployment improvements to increase speed to market and to better manage SKU transitions and other changes;
  • As applicable, attend industry conferences and tradeshows to better network and expand knowledge of industry trends.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Manage SKU readiness reporting for product content completion for eCommerce management team to aid in accurate seasonal plans and strategy creation;
  • Utilize reporting tools and systems to compile/analyze data that help increase content quality, process compliance and speed to market
  • Provide support for monthly reporting on SMG-owned and Retailer product content audits;
  • Provide additional reporting as requested.

Additional responsibilities assigned as special needs may arise and should be considered as important as brand/business responsibilities noted above.

The perfect person will have:

  • BA/BS degree in Digital Marketing, Marketing, Communication, Journalism or related field;
  • 3 - 5 years experience managing product content, eCommerce/digital content or other equivalent experience;
  • Strong spelling, grammar, editing, proofing and communication skills are a must;
  • A detail-oriented, reliable and enthusiastic disposition;
  • Tech savviness with an initiative to learn new software systems quickly;
  • Strong problem-solving skills, analytical and critical-thinking skills;
  • Outstanding communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to manage internal and external resources to successfully to meet project objectives and deadlines;
  • A keen view of the rapidly changing eCommerce content marketing environment including trends, systems, competition and understanding of both consumer ability to juggle multiple projects, connect the dots and meet tight deadlines and budgets in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to be comfortable working in a highly-matrixed environment;
  • A startup/hustle/roll-up-your-sleeve mentality;
  • A results-oriented focus and flexibility with continuous change;
  • Ability to contribute collaboratively to a team while also working independently and proactively to analyze issues and improve results;
  • Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Some other nice to haves:

  • Merchandising, Marketing, Content Publishing or eCommerce experience is preferred, for a national manufacturer or CPG brand;
  • Awareness or understanding of eCommerce content creation, distribution and syndication and/or PIM systems integrations;
  • Retailer systems experience: Retailer Content Publishing Systems (e.g. Amazon Vendor/Seller Central, Home Depot IDM, Lowe’s Link, Walmart Supplier Center, ARS, etc.) and PIM/content publishing and auditing systems (e.g. Salsify, Edgenet, Clavis, Content Analytics, etc.),
  • Experience with Product Information Management (PIM) systems, project management systems, and/or DAM systems (e.g., Canto Cumulus, Extensis Suitcase, etc.);
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
