We’re looking for an Environmental Specialist to grow with us in our Marysville, OH corporate headquarters!

If you enjoy a fast-paced, high energy environment then you will fit in well as an Environmental Specialist  for Scotts Miracle-Gro.  On a day-to-day basis you will coordinate and oversee the implementation of EHS programs and processes with a split emphasis on Environmental data management.

In this role you will:

  • Support the third party warehouse waste management program, the internal material write-off waste disposition program, and programs related to compliance with Department of Transportation requirements, including conducting periodic audits, inspections, assessments, and training.
  • Acquire and maintain a working knowledge and understanding of the environmental aspects and impacts associated with Company operations in order to establish, monitor and track environmental metrics. Support and monitor ongoing EHS compliance across the Company to enhance efficiencies, risk management, and communications. Review and prepare reports and communicate to site management, business unit and corporate personnel.
  • Conduct reviews of site operations in the US and Canada to address environmental impacts, develop strategies and programs for maintaining compliance, minimizing waste and preventing pollution.
  • Participate in the review of new projects, sites, and research initiatives to ensure proper implementation of Company EHS programs and policies. Provide EHS consulting services to operations and business units.
  • Assist US and Canadian regional EHS management staff in obtaining, monitoring, and maintaining environmental permits, approvals and licenses by conducting necessary research and providing technical expertise.
  • Review and interpret new and proposed regulations for applicability, develop associated implementation and training programs and procedures. Participate in professional industry groups to further develop individual capabilities and to benchmark activities.

The perfect person will have:

  • BS/BA in an EHS related technical, scientific, or engineering discipline.
  • Certified in: RCRA HAZMAT and DOT.
  • One to three years of EHS experience in manufacturing, agriculture, or related field.
  • Working knowledge of applicable environmental regulations and standards, including waste, transportation, storm water, drinking water, air, etc.

Some other nice to have’s:

  • Knowledge of data management systems and tools, SAP experience is preferable.
  • Strong leadership, facilitation, problem solving, organizational, communication and decision making skills.
