We're looking for a Manager, External Reporting to join our Corporate Finance team.

This position will be based at The Scotts Miracle-Gro world headquarters in Marysville, a suburb of Columbus, OH.  Not familiar with Columbus? Visit columbusregion.com/columbus-2020/

You will play a critical oversight role in key finance processes including preparation and review of financial information to be released outside of the organization, accounting and reporting for non-routine and corporate functions, as well as certain budgeting, forecasting, business analysis and M&A activities.  You'll also be involved in various cross-functional activities and has significant exposure to business unit and corporate leadership.

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Key oversight responsibilities related to the preparation and review of financial statements and footnote disclosures included in the company's 10-Q and 10-K filings with the SEC
  • Oversight of the accounting and reporting for certain non-routine and corporate functions such as share-based compensation, pensions, legal, impairment, etc.
  • Periodic analysis of operational results, involving collaboration with various levels of business unit and corporate leadership
  • Involvement in accounting and reporting matters related to mergers and acquisitions
  • Oversight of certain budgeting and forecasting activities for corporate functions
  • Providing support to the Company's businesses by assisting with the resolution of accounting questions and the interpretation of the Company’s accounting policies
  • Assist in the analysis and implementation of new and relevant accounting pronouncements
  • Assisting the Company's external auditors with the completion of their quarterly reviews and annual financial statement audit
  • Certain compliance and SOX responsibilities related to applicable corporate functions (i.e. account reconciliations, execution of key controls)

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting is required
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Strong initiative and leadership
  • Ability to manage projects effectively and work cross-functionally with various departments to address accounting and reporting topics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and general information systems skills  
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational management skills
