Job Overview:

The Technician serves a critical role in operating and improving Scotts R&D Florida Research Station, located in Apopka, FL.  The Florida Field Station enables quality biological research that is required to develop new lawn & garden products. Our Florida Field Station includes a 15,000 square foot greenhouse, 18+ acres of irrigated turf and research gardens, storage and equipment sheds, and extensive equipment and utility vehicles. Primary responsibility is to help keep our facility and infrastructure in research-ready condition.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintenance of the research station facilities to include mowing, light equipment maintenance & repair, hedge trimming, irrigation installation and repair.
  • Ensure  field areas are in research-ready condition using appropriate equipment and best practices
  • Maintain research equipment
  • Serve as key backup to the station Manager
  • Assist in key events such as field research days, tours, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  •  Minimum of high school diploma with 2-4 years of relevant work experience. Associate degree in a relevant discipline such as landscape maintenance, turfgrass management, greenhouse operation, horticulture, biology or similar is preferred.

Experience

  •  Relevant work experience may include landscape maintenance, golf course management, greenhouse operation, horticulture or similar.

 Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate equipment such as forklifts, mowers, tractors, utility carts, sprayers, spreaders and other typical equipment used to maintain lawns, gardens and greenhouses
  • Attention to detail and high quality of work
  • Personal drive and ability to identify needs and address them promptly
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors
