We are looking for a Health and Safety Technician who will grow at our Airdrie, AB growing media (Soil & Mulch) production facility.

Under the responsibility of the Plant Manager, the Health and Safety Technician will be primarily responsible for maintaining the implementation of activities related to the plant's health and safety program.

In this role you will:

  • Participate in the development, revision and implementation of programs, work procedures and training relating to health and safety;
  • Support the implementation of the OH&S program;
  • Participate in changing occupational health and safety culture and act as an agent of change;
  • Prioritize and coordinate prevention activities;
  • Support the Regional Manager of Environment, Health and Safety in various projects;
  • Promote the prevention and the adoption of safe behaviours through communications and training or promotional activities;
  • Participate in OH&S committees and other safety meetings;
  • Conduct investigations and analysis of incidents and follow-up of corrective actions (incident reports, surveys, etc.);
  • Conduct monthly inspections;
  • Coordinate activities related to the requirements and conformities schedule;
  • Train new employees as part of their integration program and give all other training;
  • Identify and analyze health and safety risks;
  • Maintain a safe and healthy working environment while respecting the standards, laws and practices in place;
  • All other duties related to health and safety.

The perfect person will have:

  • College diploma in health and safety, OH&S certificate or equivalent
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Operations ideally focused in Safety
  • Relevant experience and knowledge of health and safety, relevant laws and regulations
  • Good organizational skills and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Sense of autonomy, responsibility and ability to demonstrate initiative
  • Computer skills (Office suite)
  • Good communication skills
  • Good capacity to influence
