Gavita and Agrolux are two industry-leading brands based in the Netherlands that operate to date mainly in the greenhouse lighting space. Our brands are part of the Hawthorne Gardening Co, North America’s largest manufacturer and distributor of hydroponic products and Hawthorne is a subsidiary of Scotts- Miracle Gro (SMG), the world leader in lawn and garden products and services. From our office in Aalsmeer, we service International customers in both professional horticulture and retail.

As the International Marketing & Business Development Manager, you will be tasked with planning, implementing, and pursuing strategic opportunities. In addition, you’ll be responsible for the development of both existing and new business. You will therefore be the person responsible for defining the ‘why,’ ‘what’ and ‘when’ of the product offering in a market that is shifting towards LED technology.

Your key focus will be on the lighting category but will increasingly include other product categories such as nutrients, HVAC and hardware. You will help drive innovation for both markets by continuously monitoring the market needs.

You will be working from the headquarter in Aalsmeer.

What we expect from you:

  • Create a business development plan to identify, evaluate, and structure key transactions to ensure continued financial health and maximum value creation through the entire product life cycle.
  • Responsible for defining gaps in our current product portfolio and make concrete proposals to improve the offering to help drive sales and profit.
  • Devise and regularly update strategies for professional horticulture and the retail hydroponics business.
  • Lead the technical/category team (3fte), marketing & communications (2fte), project management (1fte) to support both / professional horticulture as well as the retail-hydro business.
  • Responsible for getting products to the market as planned
  • Help monitor business results and margins by product and compare with annual plans and propose corrective measures where necessary.
  • Lead the product development process and continuously seek alignment with key internal stakeholders.
  • Liaise closely with the North American category team members for brand portfolio development and harmonization.
  • Work closely with the Technical Department, Finance, Sales, Marketing and Operations to analyze results and develop tactical plans to meet the growth objectives.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel internationally.


  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree, ideally a combination of a technical undergraduate degree (in electronics or in greenhouse production) and a further specialization in marketing.
  • Fluent Dutch and English language skills.
  • At least 10 years of experience preferably in greenhouse Horticulture.
  • International experience in a multinational, preferably an American company.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
