Manager, Integrated Channel + Content Planning

ScottsMiracle-Gro is looking for a strategy-forward talent to lead our approach to the role partnerships play in our modern marketing ecosystem. Brands today are tasked to win the attention of current and prospective consumers in differentiated, authentic and impactful ways. We’re looking for someone who is stoked to answer this question for our lawn, garden, cannabis, wellness, design, decor and pet businesses: How can brands win attention, engagement and loyalty through the voices, affinities and platforms of others? 

This role will be responsible for the strategic work defining how to build and deploy partner relationships with groups like publishers (content and media companies, news entities), influencers (celebrities, content creators), PR agencies, and our cause-related platforms (CSR efforts, cause marketing) to further our brand businesses with innovative earned attention strategies and integrated marketing campaigns. You’ll lead the execution of the plans as a part of an Integrated Planning team with additional cross-functional resources within the marketing department. The ideal person for this role is an entrepreneurial thinker and doer, who is pumped to build the plans and get their hands dirty executing them.

  • You understand what it takes to identify, engage, and build loyalty in new audiences by leveraging the affinities, reach and relationships of partner organizations. You think in content and channel ecosystems and frameworks -- you have a connectivity-driven mindset that you use to connect the dots across practices, channels and tactics. 

  • You understand modern brand building, and can reverse engineer the marketing world of your favorite brands. You have an opinion about what they’re doing, why it works, and what else they could be doing. You know what it takes to stand out in noisy digital environments. 

  • You’re a student of the best-known brand case studies, and are the first to uncover interesting case studies, trends and strategies deployed by disruptor brands and legacy brands alike. 

  • You love keeping up with the newest of new news so you can evaluate what we can learn, shine a light on the white-space opportunities for our brands, and then create a plan to go after them.

Simply put, you know how to build a network of many types of relationships that can fuel your vision with content, events, stunts, sponsorships, and talent/influencer marketing campaigns and you can lead the activation of internal and external resources alike to make it come to life. 

Day to day

  • Internalize the brand business strategies at hand, as well as the brand messaging, key audiences insights and communications strategies to align your work to

  • Lead the development of partnership-focused marketing strategies and channel activation plans to support our brand business and communications strategies

  • Implement marketing strategies across a variety of digital and IRL channels and report on the outcome of each campaign

  • Owner of third party media, news, and content publisher relationships as a part of our paid media plans and sponsorship agreements, as well as in-house managed publisher relationships 

  • Lead our PR and sports marketing agency relationships, manage their scopes of work and engage the teams to deploy strategies that you build together

  • Lead influencer marketing strategies and personal/platform relationships (influencer-direct relationships, celebrity talent, independent content creators, software/platforms as needed)

  • Negotiate content, sponsorship and talent-driven programs independently, or in partnership with our Media, Public Relations and/or Sports Marketing agencies

  • Partner with our Corporate PR team to extend the impact of existing CSR programs into our consumer-facing marketing plans

  • Lead the planning and activation of cause marketing programs for our brands

  • Strong knowledge of owned digital properties to identify opportunities to connect from partner channels into owned web, social and CRM channels

  • Consult with brand business partners to understand business models, brand objectives and audience development opportunities

  • Provide thought leadership POVs on relevant case studies, current events and whitespace opportunities 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and oral communicator; willing to act as a public-facing representative of our brands and pare

  • Strong at communicating a vision, plan and action items in presentations to cross-functional teammates

  • Flexible operator; defining success plans and adapting/optimizing plans and outcomes as you go to ensure the greatest possible results

  • Experience operating in a highly matrixed environment, and cross-managing internal deliverables and people resources

  • Experience negotiating partner arrangements (content partnerships, agency relationships, influencer programs)

  • 8-10 years of digital marketing experience supporting CPG brands, preferably a portfolio of enterprise brands

  • Degree in liberal arts, marketing or other applicable disciplines preferred

Some other nice to haves:

  • Experience directly managing celebrity talent or talent agencies a plus

  • Sports marketing experience a plus
