The primary role of the Regulatory Affairs, Analyst is to coordinate and execute activities that ensure compliance of ScottsMiracle-Gro’s Canadian chemical product portfolio. This involves all aspects of regulatory compliance, registration, and label approval.   S/he will track and communicate regulatory policy and provincial legislative changes affecting Scotts and Hawthorne products. S/he will provide technical regulatory support to internal and external customers (eg. Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain, Retailers, Growers) for provincial and federal issues related to Scotts / Hawthorne consumer and professional product portfolio and ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations. S/he will also interact with provincial and local control officials and industry counterparts to represent the Company’s interests and minimize the impact of new/changing legislation to the business. This role will also function as back-up to other Regulatory roles and will assume his/her responsibilities whenever s/he is absent from work.

  • Ensures compliance of products and related activities. Manages product registrations of Scotts/Hawthorne products which includes: collecting data and information to support registrations and registration strategies, ensuring label quality and compliance, and obtaining and maintaining product registration. Ensures compliance of all products to applicable regulations and standards, which can include but is not limited to Pest Control Products, Fertilizers, Consumer Products, Seeds, Environmental, Post-consumer Waste Regulations. Prepares and maintains appropriate reporting, documentation and licensing to support compliance.
  • With minimal supervision and guidance from Senior Regulatory staff, actively provides technical and functional area support (Regulatory Department support, Inspection Notice responses, SAP Master data and reporting) to minimize regulatory risk and impacts to the business.  Provides Regulatory support to other functional areas (R&D, Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain) in order to plan and execute projects that are strategic to the business eg. Retailer support, product launch, acquisitions, divestitures, raw material review, competitor analysis, etc.
  • Assists in development of company positions and provides input to industry positions to mitigate business impacts of new/changing legislation. Represents Scotts during Regulatory interactions and builds relationships with same, participates in industry committees, workshops, and Regulatory forums.
  • Monitors applicable legal requirements related to Scotts products and registrations at national, provincial and local levels. Analyzes and communicates impacts to the business (internal and external customers) and develops, implements, and communicates plans to ensure compliance. ​

Job Specifications (Minimum Requirements)

Skill Factors (education, experience, communication, technical, etc.)

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological or Physical Science
  • 3 - 5 years Regulatory experience (or related fields)
  • Working knowledge of the principles of research and/or experimental design, and principles of biological and/or physical sciences
  • Strong oral and written communication skills as well as presentation abilities
  • Knowledge of French language is an asset
  • Ability to improvise within set boundaries and design work to achieve set objectives
  • Ability to recommend registration options based on defined objectives, organize data in a straightforward and logical manner and be able to offer interpretation of information, regulations, and provincial policies to supervisor, as well as, internal and external customers
  • Excellent skills in data management, information analysis and report writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with keen ability to collaborate with, adapt and relate to various personalities e.g. regulatory analysts, sales, marketing
  • Intermediate Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • SAP experience preferred

Working Conditions

  • Works the standard schedule of 37.5 hours per week; however, job requirements will include additional and/or extended work time as the business dictates
  • Works in a well-ventilated modern office with natural and artificial light exposure
  • Overnight travel required up to four days per month
  • Day travel required up to two days per month
