We are looking for a Sales Manager who will be responsible for developing/managing relationships and executing business plans in the Omaha, Nebraska area.  The territory will include accounts in Nebraska, and parts of Wyoming,  South Dakota and Iowa. 

This individual will be a hybrid role building relationships on both  with major home center retail partners and independent hardware stores.  Results are achieved through account management and effective sales calls, identifying opportunities to drive business growth, support of execution of agreed to sales and marketing plans, the assessment of local market opportunities and managing seasonal associates.

In this role you will:

  • Build strong relationships with key decision makers of assigned accounts such as Walmart, Lowe’s, The Home Depot and independent hardware stores
  • Maximizing growth opportunities with existing Independent Hardware customers and prospect new accounts
  • Recommend and develop pre-season orders and conduct business reviews, as applicable
  • Identify and communicate local insights and competitive activity to influence marketing plans, tactics, and regional product development
  • Conduct product knowledge training for retailers and consumers, as appropriate
  • Develop, present and execute agreed to sales plan to achieve assigned goals within assigned customer accounts
  • Present business reviews for assigned customer accounts to customers, Scotts management and internal partners
  • Assist retailers in the proper merchandising of Scotts’ product lines including the use of point-of-purchase materials, as appropriate, to meet the account’s needs
  • Manage and direct the work of Merchandisers & Counselors including planning, scheduling and delegating work assignments
  • Lead talent management initiatives including performance, providing feedback & coaching and creating development plans
  • Build effective teams through developing recruitment plans, interviewing and making hiring decisions to meet market needs aligned to sales growth plan
  • Manage your own merchandiser budget, expenses and store routing decisions
  • Meet all administrative and compliance requirements.  Properly utilizes all technical tools to enhance productivity and maximize efficiencies
  • Ensure safe work environment for all associates

The perfect person will have

  • Bachelor Degree in relevant area of study is required or equivalent work experience
  • Prior account management experience required
  • Account management experience with home center or supercenter accounts preferred
  • Two (2) years of prior field sales and/or retail sales merchandising experience preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Prior customer prospecting and qualifying experience preferred
  • Experience establishing effective work relationships with key decision makers preferred
  • Prior retail experience including development and implementation of advertising plans, account programs and merchandising tactics preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push and pull up to 60 lbs.
  • Ability to climb an 8 to 12 foot ladder and reach overhead occasionally
  • Ability to withstand changes in temperature and humidity including indoor/outdoor working conditions
  • Ability to drive in a vehicle for long periods of time

General Requirements

  • Must be willing to submit to The Scotts Company background check policy which includes Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, drug test and background check
  • Must have current valid drivers license and ability to drive
  • High Speed Internet access readily available
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
  • Occasional overnight travel required (Average 2-5 overnights a month)
