We are looking for an Scientist, Quality & Compliance who will join our R&D Quality team in Marysville, OH.

What you’ll do in this role:

The Quality and Product Compliance Scientist has the primary responsibility to ensure product compliance for all registered products.  The role will also have responsibility to drive continuous improvement projects around SMG systems and processes, and conduct both Quality and Compliance audits to identify and close gaps.  The role will be responsible for review and approval of all ingredient, formula, specs and Manufacturing Instructions, plus registration submissions; and audit both Quality and other departments’ compliance responsibilities.  The focused responsibility is on FIFRA registered, Organic certified, and 25b exempt products.  The ideal candidate would have experience in SAP/PLM, EPA registrations and creating CSFs or formulas; plus have knowledge of manufacture and processing of pesticide end use products. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and approve all Raw Materials, Formulas, Group A Product Chemistry, Manufacturing Instructions, and CSFs for fertilizer and pesticide products and registrations prior to implementation and/or application submissions.  Ensure compliance with all registrations. 

  • Identify and drive system and process improvements to ensure traceability, transparency and improve efficiency.  Lead cross functional teams to execute projects that improve Quality or Compliance systems.  Collaborate closely with colleagues in R&D, regulatory, sourcing, and manufacturing to ensure alignment on Continuous Improvement and Compliance project goals.   

  • Conducts Quality audits of R&D, Regulatory, Purchasing and Supply Chain Compliance checkpoints.  Conducts Quality audits with varying focus:  FIFRA and Organic Checkpoint compliance, Plant performance Quality, Supplier Quality, Retail shelf, etc.  Support Internal Audit and external audits of Compliance Checkpoints. 

  • Ensure flexibility for Supply Chain.  Ensure Operations has all necessary information for production.  Troubleshoot product dashboard issues.  Maintain both approved and pending Raw Material supplier lists with Purchasing and Regulatory.  Review registrations, formulas, RM specs, and CSFs on special request – provide options for alternate suppliers, alternate raw materials, etc. 

  • Review and approve all Plant Trial Requests.  Ensure proper disposal, labelling, and registration compliance.  Ensures appropriate internal approvals and notifications.  Approve reblend opportunities and disposal for Manf. 

  • Update SOPs and training documents as needed.  Create and provide new hire and annual training to R&D on CSF and Group A Product Chemistry creation

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Min. 2-4 years experience developing pesticide products and/or pesticide registrations.  Expertise in developing CSFs or formulations a plus

  • Minimum BS in Chemistry, Engineering, Biology, Environmental Science, or other Science related field

Knowledge & Skills

  • Possess a broad awareness of consumer lawn and garden products and practices; hands-on experience is desirable

  • Understanding of EPA Registrations and/or formulations. 

  • Proficient with Google, SAP/PLM, and Microsoft Office.  Capability with or ability to learn Sharepoint, DMS, Microsoft Visio

  • Scientific curiosity, personal drive and networking abilities to find breakthrough technologies, product improvements and cutting-edge methods

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with key stakeholders to influence direction and enable decisions to make progress toward goals.
