We are looking for a Senior Buyer, Raw Materials, who will join our Supply Chain team in Marysville, OH.

Do you get enjoyment from seeing the results of your hard work on shelves at big box retailers and on TV ads? The Senior Buyer is responsible for sourcing approximately $45 million a year of various raw materials for multiple Scotts manufacturing facilities.  They will maintain and improve the quality and service levels consistent with The Scotts Company established standards, policies, and procedures.  Some examples of the sourced materials are:  fertilizers, surfactants, solvents, colorants, micronutrients, natural/organic nutrients, packaging components and specialty chemicals. The Senior Buyer will help lead Scotts Supply Chain through strategic sourcing processes, as well as directly negotiating and contracting required volumes.  In addition, they will be a strategic leader within the Scotts Sourcing Team, helping to guide the Scotts organization through raw material sourcing efforts.

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Develop and execute disciplined sourcing strategies for the Scotts Miracle-Gro brands. 
  • Develop commodity strategy linked to operating/strategic plan 
  • Negotiate materials in context of strategic sourcing/operating plan
  • Advise on commodity strategy and corporate policies
  • Develop/review and approve sourcing contracts and implementation strategies
  • Drive cost savings initiatives
  • Determine total cost of ownership for materials procured
  • Adhere to budgetary guidelines
  • Aid in development of the department strategic planning
  • Analyze and detail the environmental factors effecting each product line (economy, industry, company), and identify and develop new market ideas based on analysis
  • Assemble cross-functional Scotts teams to determine current state of commodities, determine future needs, determine gaps between current state and future state (needs), and develop plan to close those gaps
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers
  • Screen potential suppliers
  • Lead evaluation of supplier capabilities, cost structure, risks, and partnership potential to determine supply base
  • Drive supplier relationship management efforts for key suppliers on an ongoing basis to measure supplier performance and evaluate potential opportunities.
  • Communicate and report supplier evaluations and performance to stakeholders throughout Scotts
  • Travel up to 25%

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • BS in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Accounting/Finance, Economics, Logistics,  Business Administration
  • MBA is a plus.
  • 5+ years experience in procurement or related focus
  • Previous purchasing experience and market knowledge relative to commodity purchasing
  • Consumer Products company experience a plus
  • Strong computer skills (SAP R/3, SAP/PLM, MS office/Google programs)
  • Ability to represent Scotts in a professional manner to both internal and external customers
