We are looking for a Shopper Marketing Manager who will join our Hardware and Distributor team with flexible location at our World Headquarters in Marysville, OH or near our key Hardware accounts in Chicago, IL.  

The Shopper Marketing Manager will be responsible for developing shopper marketing programs, in concert with Scotts Miracle-Gro (SMG) and key Hardware marketing teams (Ace, True Value, and Do It Best), to optimize engagement of Lawn and Garden shoppers at these key accounts while providing a platform for strategic selling. Additionally, the Shopper Marketing Manager will provide marketing programs to drive increased business through our Distributor channel. To be successful, the Shopper Marketing Manager must strive to develop and maintain strong working relationships across the organization of these key Hardware and Distributor accounts.

In this role you will:

  •  Lead shopper marketing program development at Hardware and Distributor accounts.

    • Assure that retail marketing initiatives are integrated with SMG strategies and consumer insights while fully leveraging retailer strategies and investments. 

    • Work with Business Development Team (BDT) to leverage marketing programs for strategic selling opportunities. Ensure that all relevant lenses are taken into consideration when developing retailer strategies and plans – the shopper, the retailer, and SMG/Brand.

    • Communicate / sell strategies internally (BDT, Brand, and Marketing partners) and to retail partners. Serve as a thought leader in strategic retailer plan development within the SMG integrated business planning process with all Strategic Business Units and the BDTs.

    • Address the need for key marketing tools and education for Hardware dealers within Ace, True Value, and Do It Best through development and execution of marketing support programs. Develop and plan for key tools for key Distributor customers as well. Serve as a key resource to help  Area Sales Managers (ASMs) understand the tools they can leverage as they embark upon strategic selling practices with dealers.

  • Manage retailer specific marketing needs including: promotion strategy integration, creative development, in-store POP and display execution, retailer .com and digital media and content needs.

  • Build and manage a strong network of influence within retailer marketing functions, including media, creative, in-store experience, and ecommerce.

  • Manage variable trade funded marketing investments to align with BDT strategies and to maximize ROI, working with business development team.

  • Partner with Business Development Team and cross functional resources (brand teams, agencies, creative development teams etc).  Become a trusted member of the BDT leadership team and a go-to for the brand teams in planning and executing strategies at retail.

  • Leverage overall SMG marketing capabilities with key retail accounts. Keep a continual pulse on how the enterprise is evolving and provide relevant insights to help retailer partners optimize with SMG.

  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with customer teams and sell ideas.

  • Must be a thought leader with the ability to influence cross-functional teams that are remote.

  • Aggressive, assertive, and results-driven.

  • Ability to effectively present to executive-level audiences, internally and at key retail accounts.

  • “Big Picture” strategic thinker with the ability to lead SMG in the rapidly evolving retail environment. Ability to develop strong working relationships with customer teams and sell ideas.

  • Must be a thought leader with the ability to influence cross-functional teams that are remote.

Some other nice to haves:

  • Requires 5+ years experience in related consumer marketing fields.

  • MBA not required, but preferred.

  • Experience with shopper marketing functions in Hardware or Home Center preferred but not required.

  • Strong project leadership and experience managing cross-functional working relationships that span internal and external partners
