Scotts Miracle-Gro is looking for a Social Media Manager who is an ambitious thinker and doer to join our Integrated Planning and Social Media team. Our new teammate will have an ownership role in the development and execution of our multichannel marketing plans for our category leading lawn and garden brands. The ideal person for this role will advocate for best-in-class use of social media channels to modernize the ways in which our brands digitally go to market and develop relationships with consumers, will seek smart and strategic uses of brand media, content publishers and platforms of all kinds and will be excited at the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and have a heavy hand in bringing social content and activations to life! 

The ideal person for this role is an Internet Person(™) through and through, who internalizes macro concepts like digital culture and behavioral trends, is an expert when it comes to channel-correct marketing and know-how, and always has their finger on the pulse of emerging channel, content and creative trends. They’re excellent at bringing together all of those concepts into tangible consumer-facing campaigns by completing audits, creating messaging plans, building content calendars, interfacing with our external agencies, providing feedback to internal and external partners, digging into ad-hoc social reporting when needed and working cross-functionally to see our social campaigns through ideation, creation, execution and measurement. This role also oversees community management and will have two direct reports -- experience acting as a player-coach day-to-day, developing talent and having passion for building engaged communities is critical.

Most of the team is located in Columbus, OH, and works out of our corporate office in Marysville, OH. We are open to remote workers if Columbus is not home to you -- and if you’d consider relocating please let us know!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop strong collaborative partnerships throughout the Marketing Services organization to support efficient delivery of social media and content strategy consultation, operational plan development, implementation and measurement

  • Build relationships with our brand team clients to understand their business challenges and opportunities to inform the development of our integrated marketing plans -- apply those learnings to develop social media channel and content plans that deliver on business goals

  • Partner with our world-class digital agencies to execute social-led integrated marketing campaigns via paid brand media, publisher activations, influencer campaigns and platform partnerships 

  • Work effectively across the organization to connect dots across channels, ensuring a seamless and valuable experience for consumers engaging with our content

  • Oversee all aspects of community management including content publishing, community engagement, crisis management, social listening and partnering with our consumer service team (who also actively community manages daily) when needed.

  • Monitor campaign performance metrics to turn insights about trends, optimization opportunities and audiences into actionable plans to improve our channel, content and engagement output

  • Actively develop the careers of direct reports within a learning environment that encourages them to become subject matter experts and future leaders

  • Advocate for social media and content marketing best practices across the organization drawing on industry standards, best practice case studies and ScottsMiracle-Gro’s historical marketing activities

Key Skills:

  • Analytical thinker with a creative flair who can translate conceptual ideas into consumer facing content; able to produce written guidelines, recommendations, and provide clear, succinct direction to partners

  • Understands the nuances of successful content across different channels and how to execute it accordingly

  • Effective communicator, able to explain complex nuances of social media channels and content simply; able to seek out and share applicable real-world examples and case studies, build audits and note recommendations to cross-functional teammates to illustrate a vision and play a key coordination role in bringing it to fruition

  • Excited to play an educator role to teach members of Marketing Services and Brand Teams about social media platforms and content and the evolving landscape of digital marketing, including social media and content’s role in the sales funnel

  • Compelling presenter to audiences of all shapes and sizes who is able to develop presentations that clearly and succinctly outline campaign goals, strategies, processes, procedures and workflows

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage capacity accordingly, is a proactive problem solver, is detail oriented and has a results-driven mindset

  • Ability to manage up effectively, including interaction with Executive/Board level leadership


  • Minimum 5 years experience in digital marketing and social media roles, minimum 2 years managing direct reports

  • Past experience in similar roles with internal clients, in an agency environment is preferred or servicing multiple brand businesses preferred

  • Familiarity with Sprinklr, Salesforce, Mavrck preferred
