We are looking for a Digital Content Specialist who will grow at our corporate office in Marysville, Ohio. 

The Digital Content Specialist will be responsible for publishing product content to support strategies and initiatives that maximize product exposure and drive conversion and sales on ScottsMiracle-Gro owned and retailer sites. The role will also be responsible for a wide variety of eCommerce functions including, but not limited to the following: maintaining product content on retailer publishing systems, reporting, delivery and hygiene of product content, content audits, content collection requests and Retailer Business Development Team (BDT) support.

This role will report to the Manager, eCommerce Digital & Content.

In this role you will:

E-Commerce Content Merchandising and Publishing:

  • Be responsible for content publishing on owned eCommerce sites and retailer partners which includes, but not limited to: all product titles, claims, descriptions, main and alternative images, videos, A+, enhanced and rich media content, etc.;
  • Support on-going maintenance and improvement for product listings (title, description, images, reviews, prices, product specs, customer questions, etc.) to increase selling performance;
  • Maintain retailer category attributes to support online product listings;
  • Maintain content hygiene across all Retailer sites;
  • Support internal and external retailer-specific requests for product content collections;
  • Must have the ability to manage a large volume of product information with a high level of attention to detail and quality control;
  • Must have the ability to manage content in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets;
  • Maintain a core understanding of SKU each, case, pallet and display unit configurations;
  • Support SEO strategies and initiatives to ensure content is properly optimized for search engine success;
  • Manage additional duties as assigned.

PIM & Asset Management Platforms & Partner Relationships:

  • Manage and maintain all retailer product content management/product submission platforms and spreadsheet formats (ex. Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart, Amazon, etc.). Also support system upgrades and new user training;
  • Maintain eCommerce content platforms for content publishing including, but not limited to: Amazon Vendor Central, Edgenet, Webcollage, Sellpoints, Scene7, etc.
  • Support and maintain internal product database platforms as required.

Content Best Practice and Compliance:

  • Maintain an active understanding of all retailer-specific guidelines, upcoming enhancements and best practices, as well as internal legal and compliance review and approval processes (including FIFRA);
  • Support programs provided by each retailer to enhance, monitor and manage product content and proactively planning for upcoming needs;
  • Manage on-going monthly manual product content audits and/or content auditing software to ensure compliance and accuracy of published content on SMG-owned and Retailer sites;
  • Manage content scorecards across retail partners.

Project Management and Organization:

  • Ensure all content is delivered on time and without error;
  • Use existing online project management system to oversee internal and external resources to meet project deliverables and deadlines;
  • Actively oversee external agency and contract resources to ensure publishing of all forms of product content (enhanced A+, rich media content, product and in-use images, etc.) for all retail partners and brands;
  • Manage project budget tracking and reporting as needed;
  • Provide weekly status report updates.

Relationship Management:

  • Foster relationships within Business Development Teams (BDT) and their retail partners to develop an understanding of key priorities and business philosophies to support each retailer’s specific needs and timelines for deliverables;
  • Represent the team at customer meetings and coordinate cross functionally with Marketing, Business Transformation (IT) and BDT’s as needed.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify product content publishing improvements to increase speed to market and to better manage SKU changes;
  • Identify product page enhancements that aid in customer buying decision;
  • Oversee A/B testing experiments for merchandising and content to increase conversion;
  • As applicable, attend industry conferences and tradeshows to better network and expand knowledge of industry trends.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Prepare weekly and daily reporting for eCommerce management team to aid in accurate seasonal plans and strategy creation;
  • Manage season readiness reporting to ensure all Retailers will be ready with all product content to sell online;
  • Provide monthly reporting on SMG-owned and Retailer product content audits;
  • Oversee performance and competitor monitoring and reporting on retailer sites as needed;
  • Provide additional reporting as requested.

Additional responsibilities assigned as special needs may arise and should be considered as important as brand/business responsibilities noted above.

The perfect person will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration or equivalent experience;
  • 1-3 years managing merchandising, eCommerce or other related marketing field;
  • Tech savviness with an initiative to learn new software systems quickly;
  • Strong project management and organization skills;
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and proofreading skills;
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to manage internal and external resources to successfully meet project objectives and deadlines;
  • A keen view of the rapidly changing eCommerce content marketing environment including trends, systems, competition and understanding of both consumer and customer behaviors;
  • Ability to demonstrate logical analytical skills;
  • Ability to be comfortable working in a highly-matrixed environment;
  • A startup/hustle/roll-up-your-sleeve mentality;
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple projects and priorities at once;
  • A results-oriented focus and flexibility with continuous change;
  • Ability to contribute collaboratively to a team while also working independently and proactively to analyze issues and improve results;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel to manage spreadsheets is required;
  • Analytical and statistical skills are a plus.

Some other nice to have’s:

  • Merchandising, Marketing, Content Publishing or Ecommerce experience is preferred, for a national manufacturer or CPG brand;
  • Awareness or understanding of eCommerce content distribution and syndication and PIM systems integrations;
  • Systems experience: Retailer Content Publishing Systems (e.g. Amazon Vendor/Seller Central, Home Depot IDM, Lowe’s Link, Walmart Supplier Center, ARS, etc.) and PIM/content publishing and auditing systems (e.g. Salsify, Edgenet, Clavis, Content Analytics, etc.), project management systems, and DAM systems (e.g., Cumulus);
  • Experience with Product Information Management (PIM) and SAP systems a plus;
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
