We are looking for a Process and Formulations, Specialist who will join our Nutrients and Controls R&D team in Marysville, Ohio.

The Process and Formulation Specialist will support the formulation development and launch of new products within a diverse portfolio of our retail and commercial hydroponic segment, as well as our consumer lawn and garden controls business segments. This role would also help build our business strategy by providing support on technology, research, hydroponic trends and practices that can be applied to sustainable consumer products by developing commercially viable formulations.

This role would with organic and synthetic liquid nutrients, water soluble and controlled release fertilizers, and natural and organic pesticides.

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Develop commercially viable formulations and processes consistent with business unit goals
  • Design and execute experimental plans to develop formulas and obtain qualitative and quantitative data required for product launch
  • Create and verify new formulations at lab, pilot, and manufacturing scales
  • Document, analyze, and report data to cross-functional teams
  • Create, route and approve ingredient and formula specifications
  • Provide hands-on support for manufacturing trials, establishing biology trials, and collecting biology trial data as needed
  • Manage chemical inventory and Safety Data Sheet storage and archiving
  • Prepare and arrange chemical samples for shipment and waste, per DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations
  • Perform all project tasks in compliance with corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety principles
  • Maintain laboratory upkeep, including chemical and equipment supply
  • Interacting directly with Packaging Development, Biology, Marketing, Purchasing, Regulatory and Supply Chain in order to bring consumer pesticide products to market. 
  • Generate samples for Good Laboratory Practices work, biology field trials and package stability testing and participate in the analysis of those results.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • 2+ years of industry experience

  • BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Material Science, Environmental Science, Natural Sciences, Wood Science, or similar degree

  • Broad awareness of consumer lawn and garden products and practices; hands-on experience is desirable

  • Strong working knowledge of the fundamental principles of chemistry and/or chemical engineering including processing techniques, formulation techniques, equipment design and operation

  • Conducts trials/experimentation with minimal oversight to completion, including initiation, data collection, preliminary data analysis

  • Exhibits scientific curiosity by posing probing questions, challenges current methods and processes, etc.

  • Displays personal drive, motivation and perseverance to identify and fill needs

  • Communicates effectively through work on project teams, conferences, tours, etc.

  • Manages multiple demands through strong organizational skills, efficiency and prioritization

  • Networking skills to build support system and seek out new technologies

  • Ability to write professional reports that can withstand scientific, peer review

  • Ability to present technical information effectively to make sound decisions

  • Attention to detail
