We’re looking for an Sr. Inbound Transportation Optimization Analyst to grow with us at our corporate headquarters in Marysville, OH!

If you enjoy a fast-paced, high energy and seasonal manufacturing environment then you will fit in well as a Sr. Inbound Transportation Optimization Analyst for Scotts Miracle-Gro.  On a day-to-day basis you will analyze our inbound freight to determine potential cash flow and saving opportunities. You will also provide support for our newly created Private Fleet and identify opportunities to leverage for inbound shipments in order to drive cost savings and improved service levels.

In this role you will:

  • Partner with functional experts in Procurement, Operations and Planning to determine potential opportunities for the optimization of inbound freight
  • Determine strategies for suppliers to reduce freight costs, including backhaul opportunities, intermodal and mode shifting (LTL to TL)
  • Research industry and supplier trends that impact the transportation spend and recommend strategies to minimize impact
  • Document and share best practices for suppliers transitioned into the SMG network
  • Ensure route guide compliance by holding suppliers accountable to tender loads to designated carriers
  • Monitor loads to ensure supplier meets service levels, and proactively manage any issues that arise
  • Support the planned savings/cash flow targets established for each fiscal year, and proactively identify any potential gaps and recommend mitigation plans to close gap


The perfect person will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, finance, supply chain management, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in supply chain, supplier management or procurement
  • Strong project management, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Strong passion for customer service and logistics excellence
  • Proven communication skills and ability to deal with difficult situations in a positive manner


Some other nice to have’s:


  • Previous experience with truckload or 3PL
  • Ability to build strong business relationships with suppliers, carriers and cross functional partners
  • Ability to excel in a rapidly changing business environment and deliver superior business results
  • Willingness to embrace change and accept all assigned duties for the greater good of the team
