We are looking for a Senior Buyer, Supply Chain Procurement who will join our Supply Chain team in Marysville, OH.

As the Senior Buyer, you will be responsible for the procurement of active ingredient raw materials used in the production of Scotts’ controls products manufactured at internal and external production sites. You will collaborate with R&D and Marketing to develop 3-5 year global technology and innovation strategies and will be integral in the supplier selection and development process. You will also be responsible for financial, material and production forecasting as well as development and execution of cost savings projects. Developing and maintaining relationships with new and existing global raw material suppliers is also key to success in this role.

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Work with cross functional resources to develop 3 to 5 year global technology strategies for Scotts’ pesticide product portfolio which includes insect, disease and weed control products.
  • Evaluate new technologies, supplier capabilities, cost structures, risks, and partnership potential.
  • Negotiate and execute supply, development, and toll manufacturing agreements in accordance with established company policies and procedures.
  • Create and implement comprehensive procurement strategies for all responsibilities.
  • Develop and implement cost savings projects that annually generate a minimum of 2-3% of assigned spend.
  • Ensure compliance related process and procedures are uncompromised.
  • Develop disruption mapping and mitigation strategies.
  • Travel as required.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration, Agriculture, Entomology, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Industry knowledge of active ingredients (natural and synthetic herbicides and pesticide ingredients) and key suppliers of active ingredients.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years in procurement, supply chain, research and development, regulatory or agribusiness field, ideally within active ingredients and raw materials.
  • Strong computer skills (SAP R/3, Google and MS Office programs).

  • Ability to succeed in a competitive, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize numerous material requirements for multiple plants and contract manufacturing facilities simultaneously, while effectively sourcing suppliers and negotiating contracts for targeted materials.
  • High degree of critical thinking.  Must be able to independently source and evaluate supplier capabilities.  Must be able to make methodical and intelligent decisions relative to strategy and negotiations.
  • Ability to effectively navigate in a regulated industry (global agrochemical industry).
