We are looking for an Sr Engineer, Electrical - Lighting who will join our Hawthorne team in Vancouver, WA.
The chosen candidate will be a key leader of Hawthorne’s Lighting and Controllers innovation pipeline in support of our North America and International business units. The lighting and environmental controller categories of Hawthorne include commercial and retail lighting and environmental controllers as well as HPS, CMH, and LED fixtures for a variety of growing facilities. The business supported by the role provides products for hydroponic indoor gardening as well as greenhouse horticulture markets in North America and globally. The chosen candidate will both work with vendors and third-party contractors as well as provide individual contributions to execute product development. The ideal candidate will be self-driven with an eagerness to learn in a fast-evolving industry.
What you’ll do in this role:
Develop a multi-year innovation and product improvement pipeline for the Lighting and Controller category in collaboration with the category manager and other R&D team members
Take a leadership role in product improvement and development for Horticulture Lighting products in support of the International pro-hort market by close collaboration with with our European team
Lead innovation on product pipeline related with high energy density power electronics, machine learning and big data analysis
Support category and marketing team on technical instruction manuals and product specification sheets
Support quality and manufacturing teams on activities related to Lighting fixtures and Environmental Controllers.
Work with procurement and PLM team on accurately creating bills of materials, drawings, and instructions for vendors and manufacturing. Maintain all product documentation in SAP
Manage relationships with domestic and international OEM suppliers related to the environmental controller category while also holding them accountable to product requirements and quality specifications
Partner closely with other Category Managers to ensure they are armed with ample technical knowledge on the categories they support
Partner with sales tech services to provide transfer of knowledge for sales training and to receive feedback from field applications that influence product design criteria.
Travel up to 25% of the time
What you’ll need to be successful:
Minimum 8 years’ experience in new product development, sustaining or manufacturing role, preferred in power system and advanced electronics field
Preferred experience on high energy density power electronics device design and FPGA based controller design
Preferred experience on advanced communication protocols and RF devices
Preferred experience on big data mining and analysis
Working experience with Mandarin speaking environment
Advanced knowledge on power electronics hardware design
Advanced Knowledge on FPGA design
Advanced Knowledge on programming with various program languages, e.g.Python, Java, C++, R and VB etc.
Knowledge on semiconductor device and solid state lighting
Knowledge on UL, CSA, EC, and ETL certification processes
Ability to interact with and contribute to cross-functional teams
Ability to handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
Drive to deliver products on time with attention to quality
Ability to speak Mandarin preferred
