We are looking for an Senior IoT Software Engineer who will join our Research and Development Applications team.

This position will be based in the Irvine, California corporate office.

The Senior IoT Software Engineer is responsible for designing and developing connected systems to support our smart devices initiative that establish strong relationships with the consumer. This role will be expected to further facilitate the development of technologies to lead our water and lawns platform forward towards the next generation of landscapes.

The skill-sets required involve understanding of hardware and software, resource limitations and connected product lifecycle that result in reliable, secure and extensible platforms.

In this role you will:

  • Evaluating needs of the organization and developing platform technologies to meet those needs and aid in product development;

  • Update and develop modern IoT systems that allow flexibility for the user while helping them be more successful in the lawn and garden;

  • Support software and technology development for Fertigation, Hydroponics Systems, Smart Irrigation Controllers, and other connected devices;

  • Responsible for software layers, including cloud based applications and API’s, connected firmware, device applications and hardware drivers;

  • Ensure robust and reliable operation of connected devices;

  • Develops electronics and software that integrate into a connected product;

  • Developing modern cloud connected Internet of Things (IoT) devices;

  • Integrate cross-disciplinary set technologies, including electronics, firmware and backend systems;

  • Significantly contribute to and participate in iterative product design;

  • Build maintainable, well structured, documented and highly performant codebase;

  • Monitor and analyze usage and performance metrics and trends.

The perfect person will have:

  • B.S. in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or Biology or other similar field required. Includes formal Statistics coursework;

  • 5+ years of Software Development experience;

  • Experience in firmware development in C/C++;

  • Knowledge of scripting platforms, like of Python or NodeJS;

  • Continuous integration practices and tools, build tooling;

  • Fundamental understanding of Electrical Engineering;

  • Fundamental understanding of Information Security;

  • Rapid prototyping of electronics devices using platforms like Arduino;

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services and other cloud platforms;

  • Ability to integrate diverse types of technologies;

  • Knowledge of PKI, cryptography and secure design practices.
