We are looking for a Strategic Communication, Manager who will join our Consumer Marketing Research team in Marysville, Ohio.

The Strategic Communications, Manager is a critical role within Scotts Miracle-Gro’s “internal agency.”  We are seeking an influencer who will drive fresh/modern thinking and be a bold advocate for change in how we connect with consumers. This individual will work closely with internal clients to stretch their thinking, while partnering with external agencies.

In this role you will:

  • Work with Integrated Marketing Managers (internal account managers) & external agency partners, developing a complete MarCom strategy (target and sub-audience identification, single-minded proposition, RTB’s, and channel strategy).

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the Scotts Miracle-Gro business and the consumer journey, translating business goals to MarCom plans.

  • Identify the most compelling consumer insight to base creative strategy/brief behind. Ensure brief is staying on strategy and creative delivers against agreed strategy.

  • Work with digital performance marketing team to identify real-time insights on which audiences and messages are resonating in-market for scale opportunities.

  • Lead all qualitative/quantitative/social split testing related to Comms development/target.

  • Assist in determining the optimal strategic approach cross channel and within channel (Digital/Social, Video, Audio, etc.).

  • Drive immersion of cultural trends, identify new programs/opportunities, and advise on how to best reach targets/audiences.

  • The role requires a blend of intuitive and analytic skills, marketing and consumer research experience, thoughtfulness and effective communication skills.

The perfect person will have:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in Marketing or Strategy, preferably with an Agency. Strong knowledge of digital marketing. Previous experience with start-ups or digitally native brands would be a plus.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Communications or Psychology/Human Behavior related field.

  • Excellent verbal and communication skills for frequent contact with internal/external agency and brand teams and the assisting of POV’s, plan presentations, etc.

  • Strong written presentation/story-telling skills. Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking and analysis in business writing.

  • Naturally curious and strong understanding of consumer behavior/psychology/unconscious decision-making/behavioral economics.

  • Able to influence and drive change.

  • Able to balance independent decision-making/challenging the status-quo while also being a team-player/collaborative.

Some other nice to haves:

  • MBA with a concentration in Marketing.

  • 1-3 years with a combination of Sales/Marketing/Brand Management experience.
