We are looking for a Technical Manager, Cyber Security Strategy & Optimization who will join our IT Security team in Marysville, OH.  This position will be based out of The Scotts Miracle-Gro world headquarters in Marysville, a suburb of Columbus, OH.  Not familiar with Columbus? Visit

You will be responsible for aligning standards, frameworks and security with the overall business and technology strategy and architecture.  Must be in tune with current and emerging threats and the relevance for the enterprise environment.  The ability to communicate at all levels will be essential in this role as it will be heavily focused on interacting with leadership and board audiences.  An appetite for continuous learning and process improvement for security is key.

What you’ll do in this role:

Technical Skills

  • Contributes to the creation of information security technology strategies and roadmaps based on business strategy, cyber security assessments, IT trends and the overall threat landscape

  • Leads and develops board materials for the Audit Committee, Board sessions and Enterprise Risk

  • Drives development of enterprise security strategy aligned with NIST CSF1.1 with focus on People, Processes, and Technology; effectively communicates the impact of cyber security gaps to diverse audiences

  • Delivers leadership to infosec, business, and project teams while assisting IT Teams in designing secure business/productivity programs

  • Participates in cyber security control assessments providing risk-based gap analysis and prioritized remediation recommendations

  • Design, manage, and execute risk assessment program for third party IT systems or services

  • Design and influence security architecture elements to mitigate emerging threats and align with assessment remediation requirements, reference architectures, and technology standards

  • Create solutions that balance business requirements with information and cyber security requirements

  • Identify security design gaps in existing and proposed architectures and recommend changes or enhancements

  • Provide support and compliance requirements on the design of security devices, networks, applications, and systems along with security controls for emerging technologies (IoT, cloud technologies, automation, AI, etc.)

  • Plays an integral part of the security tool lifecycle through vendor research and engagement, requirements gathering and scoring, helping define the operationalization model, and TCO analysis

  • Investigate IT/Cyber security events and develop solutions

  • Performs research and development activities of technologies in the marketplace to improve the security posture of the organization mapping those to current and evolving compliance needs

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • 10 or more years of related work experience

  • Bachelors Degree desired or relevant work experience

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and conceptual skills to identify and deliver high performing solutions

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to express complex technical concepts in understandable business terms.
