 We are looking for a high-performing, results-driven leader to be our Technical Manager for our Temecula, CA manufacturing facility! 

This is one of our more unique facilities with injection molding machines and one-piece-flow assembly lines where we make all of our plastic based materials like spreaders, garden feeders, and spray pumps. It is one of the largest and fastest growing plants in our network.

On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for driving safety, quality, projects, manufacturing execution, associate development, and continuous improvement activities across the production facility. What you’ll do in this role:

  • Oversee the engineering, maintenance, tooling, and molding technical teams in conjunction with the Plant Manager.

  • Directly lead a team of up to 2 salaried employees and 6 hourly employees, across 3 shifts of Engineers, Engineering Technicians, leads, and Sr. Leads. 

  • Indirectly oversee up to 15 hourly employees across 3 shifts of tooling specialists, molding and set-up technicians, and maintenance mechanics.

  • Lead the design and project management of critical assigned projects, including engineering improvements, redesigns, and changes from concept to meeting takt and execution. 

  • Prepare cost estimates, quotes, and analysis on new projects, SKUs, and changes. Work closely with the finance department in proposals and budget.

  • Support all R&D Corporate initiatives and add feedback to ensure manufacturing goals can be accomplished. 

  • Prepare capital proposals and execute plans for asset maintenance and cost saving projects. 

  • Deliver new technologies, automation, and cost saving projects. 

  • Review in conjunction with Engineer, Tooling, and Molding teams the approvals of the DFMs, tooling manufacturing release and ensure compliance with cycle times, equipment constraints and meet project and organizational goals. 

  • Review and approve in conjunction with corporate Quality and R&D teams, design, routings, BOMs, engineering changes in components and finished goods SKUs. 

  • Lead the design of manual, semi-automatic, and automatic manufacturing lines.

  • Lead the launch of new assembly lines, facility improvements, and assigned capital projects by aligning with the onsite leadership, corporate partners, and coordinating with internal departments to provide input, resources, and collaboration.

  • Ensure top quality manufacturing and address any gaps associated with equipment, tooling, or process issues. Support the execution of corrective actions to meet specifications and cycle times.

  • Execute maintenance corrective and preventative plans for all equipment and tooling.  

  • Provide leadership direction and support to the facility through participation on the plant leadership team and by positively interfacing with production support teams such as Safety, Quality, Production, and Materials.

  • Ensure a best-in-class Safety, Environmental, and Health culture by leading by example and adhering to and improving upon existing processes and programs.  

  • In partnership with Human Resources, develop associate recognition, succession, and training programs. Establish departmental expectations and drive accountability.

  • Analyze and improve upon key production metrics that will impact plant performance and efficiencies.  Drive process improvements to advance associate safety, improve customer satisfaction, control costs and reduce waste.

  • Own the department budget, including labor utilization, overtime, and cost variances.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field required. Mechanical Engineering (highly preferred). MBA or Master's in engineering a plus. 

  • Minimum 5 years of engineering and/or technical leadership experience in a plant environment (strongly preferred in an injection molding facility), including working knowledge of manufacturing facets such as continuous improvement, team building, safety, associate relations, quality, and customer service.

  • Solid mechanical design expertise. 

  • 3D CAD (ProE preferred, SolidWorks required); Microsoft Office Excel, Visio, Word, Project (required); Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Outlook, Access (preferred); DOE Software (MiniTab or equivalent preferred); SAP (MRP systems preferred).

  • Experience in the following functional areas: tooling design, injection molding process, cost management, manufacturing constraints, quality, lean manufacturing, mechanical design, automation, programming, facilities and equipment maintenance. 

  • Experience in supporting continuous improvement initiatives and project management. 

  • Proven leader who thinks and leads with the enterprise in mind. This means breaking down silos, having shared goals, and considering the impact of decisions across all of our functions.

  • Exceptional communication skills and a passion for leading people.

  • Ability to help develop/drive strategic improvement initiatives.

  • Must be able to effectively multi-task and problem solve in a fast paced environment and the ability to manage, motivate and train others to achieve required goals.  

  • Strong computer skills are required.
