We are looking for a Technical Writer & Organizational Change Management, Senior Analyst who will join our Information Technology team.

This position is the central support for all IT staff as it relates to corporate communications.  The Technical Writer is responsible for partnering with IT professionals to help establish the most effective way to communicate with their business partners.   

In this role you will:

  • Technical Writing, Communication, and Organizational Change Management

    • Drive communication and organizational change management efforts for IT.

    • Provide strategic counsel and thought leadership to all levels of IT with respect to communications and organizational change management.

    • Develop communication strategies, plans and content to increase Associate awareness of IT activities, programs and accomplishments.

    • Design and lead business organizational change management training for IT.

    • Serve as the lead author and editor of IT-related articles on the corporate intranet site and collaborate with Corporate Communications on the prioritization and publication of IT-related articles.

    • Manage the Knowledge Base of articles in ServiceHub. This role is responsible for final review and approval of all Associate-facing articles.

    • Proactively build and manage relationships with key stakeholders to foster mutual awareness and understanding of IT and business activities (e.g., serving as a member of the Corporate Communications Garden Editorial Board).

    • This position requires autonomous work and self-directed activities.

    • This position includes the possibility of serving as a Manager of Others (e.g., IT’s annual professional internship program).


  • Portfolio Planning and Project Governance

    • Lead and/or consult on communication and organizational change management activities for specific projects/initiatives (e.g., as a formal member of a project team).

    • Provide project methodology training to Project Managers.

    • Manage and communicate portfolio level status reporting processes.


  • IT Process Management & Improvement

    • Lead the communication processes and quality of the content of information and distribution of the departmental weekly status report.  

    • Support the departmental focus on making Scotts Miracle-Gro the premier “place to work.”

    • Work within IT to identify process improvement opportunity areas based on metrics and key data points.


  • Service Desk Management

    • Provide leadership oversight for our Outsourced Service Desk team.  Serve as the primary liaison between IT and our Outsource provider.

    • Manage key SLAs for our Outsourced Service Desk by holding weekly reviews with the Service Desk Manager and Team Lead.  In addition, review key metrics to help identify any trends that may need addressed.

    • Ensure the Service Desk team is informed of any changes in our technology stack that could impact our end-user community.

The perfect person will have:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to effectively express complex concepts in simple business terms across all levels of the organization.

  • Minimum of 5 years of IT communications experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of organizational change management experience.

  • Minimum 3 years experience in business process design and improvement.

  • Portfolio Planning - experience defining and prioritizing multi-year plans that align with business strategy.

  • Ability to think strategically and plan effectively while leveraging strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills.

  • Conceptual and/or demonstrated project management knowledge and experience.

  • Demonstrated competency in business case development.

  • Ability to influence and gain alignment with people at all levels in the organization, on the approach and timing to implement solutions to strategic business problems.

  • Strong perseverance abilities in the face of challenges and the ability to deal with conflicts constructively.

  • Ability to partner with peers, team members and demonstrate collaborative, effective teamwork.

  • Comfort and flexibility with changing priorities, high levels of ambiguity, and non-routine issues.

  • Ability to multi-task in fast-paced deadline intensive environment.

  • Ability to anticipate obstacles and plan contingencies.
