We are looking for an Electrical Compliance Technician who will join our Hawthorne Gardening team in Vancouver, WA.

This position is required to conduct testing critical to product safety compliance (specifically UL and CSA Standards) and performance. These tests could be electrical, mechanical or environmental. The Compliance Technician must develop knowledge of the multiple types of products we sell. This requires mechanical, photometric, and electrical knowledge. This position is project based and must be able to work well with others, be a problem solver, and work with safety and quality always being the main focus.

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Use computer-assisted engineering software (SolidWorks) to perform engineering tasks

  • Conceive, plan, and conduct research in problem areas or areas of opportunity for the

  • business. 

  • Support product categories with product development and testing  

  • Inspect products and installations to ensure compliance with design, equipment specifications, and safety standards 

  • Understanding of electrical systems, ability to create and follow electrical schematics according to test plans  

  • Execute pre-tests cooperatively with test labs on equipment

  • Prepares periodic reports for management

  • Must be able to follow Test Plans developed by the Compliance Engineer.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • BS or AS in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or on track to graduate soon.

  • Basic programming skills. 

  • Excellent quantitative skills.

  • Be comfortable in and familiar with a certified testing lab environment

  • Ability to handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously

  • Ability to work at a fast pace and manage a fast growing environment.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to communicate both internal and external, as well as all levels of the organization.

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, planning and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Preferred experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, NumPy, and MatLab. 

  • Preferred experience with product compliance safety standards such as UL 1598, UL 508A, and UL 8800
